Firestarter isn’t one of Stephen King’s most renowned novels, but I’ve always enjoyed it. The story centers on secret government experiments with an LSD-like drug that gives you psychic abilities. A couple participates in the tests and end up with very weak telekinetic powers, but after they have a child they quickly realize that she’s a powerful pyrokinetic. She’s the titular firestarter, and the rest of the story follows her trying to stay a step ahead of the government as they seek to imprison her to study her immense power.
The book was adapted for the screen in 1984, with a young Drew Barrymore in the lead role. Even taking into account the extremely variable quality of Stephen King movies, this is very much at the bottom of the pack, receiving terrible reviews and sinking into obscurity. In a 2012 retrospective, King described Firestarter as one of...

For thousands of years, religious Jews have practised “The Vigil”; a ritual that takes place after a member of the Orthodox community passes over. During this, the deceased’s remains are observed by a “Shomer” watchman who recites psalms to comfort the departed soul and protect it from “unseen evil”. This watchman is usually a friend or member of the family but you can also get paid Shomers who are hired to sit the vigil when no one else is available. This forms the basis of writer/director Keith Thomas’ debut feature, during which delectable dread is plaited and tent-pole terrors deployed.
The set up sees thirty-something protagonist Yakov Ronen (Dave Davis) leave his Orthodox Jewish community to start a new life in New York City. Yakov is then approached by an old community colleague who asks him to act as Shomer for late Holocaust survivor Ruben Litvak. Yakov accepts...

“Although we will not have a physical presence at Mipcom this year, we look forward to showcasing our incredible slate through an enhanced digital experience,” a Fremantle spokesperson told Variety.
A BBC Studios spokesperson told Variety, “In order to give certainty to customers and colleagues, we have now confirmed that while BBC Studios will not have a physical presence at Mipcom 2020, we will be fully supporting the event through digital delivery. We will share further details of our slate and activity in the weeks ahead. We look...

Crucial components of the production process, such as casting and scouting, are becoming arduous as productions fish from the same pool of bankable actors and attractive locations — and inevitably get delayed.
