Back in June of last year, the Hollywood Chamber’s Board of Directors announced that more than thirty new stars are going to be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025 (and into 2026), with the latest batch of honorees including legendary filmmaker John Carpenter. Honorees have up to two years after they are chosen to set a date for their ceremonies – and now, it has been confirmed that Carpenter’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:30 Am Pt.

Carpenter’s will be the 2,806th star to be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the dedication will take place at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

John Carpenter‘s Starman will be released on SteelBook 4K Ultra HD + Digital on May 27 from Sony.

The 1984 sci-fi romance has been restored in 4K from the original camera negative with Dolby Vision Hdr and Dolby Atmos audio.

Bruce A. Evans & Raynold Gideon penned the script with uncredited revisions by Dean Riesner.

Per GeekVibesNation, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced a 4K Uhd Blu-ray remaster of Carpenter's 1984 sci-fi romance - Starman. The film will be available in a Limited Edition SteelBook format on May 27, and will feature a 4K scan from the Original Camera Negative replete with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos upgrades, as well as a whole host of special features.

John Carpenter, the filmmaker behind great horror works like Halloweenand The Thing, is set to be honored next month when he receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony is set to take place on Thursday, April 3, with guests still to be announced. Carpenter's star will be the 2,806th installation on one of the most important sidewalks in the world, where Hollywood legends have been granted a place in history. The press release lists the exact address of his star as "7000 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel."

Steve Nissen, President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will lead the ceremony alongside the guest speakers. The event will be live-streamed on the organization's website at 11:30 Am Pt. Per the press release on the Walk of Fame website:

Producer Shawn Levy is teaming with writer/showrunner Drew Crevello (The Grudge 2) and Hasbro Entertainment for “The Forgotten Realms”.

Plot details are scarce at this time, but the series “will take place in the iconic campaign setting and centerpiece of the Dungeons & Dragons universe, a fantasy world that is home to some of the brand’s most famous characters and launchpad for some of D&d’s most popular adventures.”

James Gunn's previous experience in the superhero genre, directing films both in the Dceu and the MCU, will help him and Peter Safran restart the Dcu franchise. At the same time, the filmmaker will not rely heavily on his previous films for the first entry in the franchise, 2025's Superman.

The Dcu has mapped up the upcoming media that will be a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, which started with the animated series Creature Commandos and the upcoming feature film Superman. Gunn's previously directed titles like Peacemaker, The Suicide Squad, and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which shared his peculiar sense of humor. Half a century into his directorial career, John Carpenter will be honored by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

The legendary horror director has been selected to receive Lafca’s Career Achievement Award during the organization’s 50th annual awards show this year, which will take place January 11, 2025 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

“The LA Film Critics Association was one of the very first groups to present me an award, so I’m truly honored by this recognition,” said Carpenter in a statement. “For a horror guy like me, this really warms my heart, and it also shows just how important horror is as a genre, which the Los Angeles Film Critics Association has known for decades.”

Genre filmmaking legend John Carpenter has recently taken to Letterboxd to write some frank reviews of his own movies and others. The results are incredible.

Having made some of the greatest genre movies ever made, John Carpenter has quite deservedly shifted down a gear or two over the past decade or so. These days, he’s keeping himself busy with his music, playing videogames (he really loves Fallout 76), holding the occasional mercurial interview with the press – and, as it turns out, writing the odd review on Letterboxd.

Brilliantly, as spotted by Twitter’s Haunted Hippie (via our own John Moore), Carpenter has even cast his jaded eye over his own movies. Take Halloween II, for example, which he’s long admitted he wrote for the money. Here’s his Letterboxd review:

Ahead of a reissue of Ziggy Stardust mixed in Atmos sound, a new music video for the album’s “Starman” pairs the song with previously unseen footage shot by Mick Rock.

The famed photographer shot the footage in 1972 and ’73 as Bowie toured in support of the album. The clip includes close-ups of the artists’ shiny red boots and fans’ hands reaching up toward the stage as guitarist Mick Ronson edged closer, as well as unusual perspectives of Bowie and his plume of hot-red hair singing the song in color and black and white.

Jeff Bridges was at the height of his powers as a movie star at the tail end of the 1980s, as he had proven to be a huge draw for the general audience and a respected actor among awards voters. Although Bridges had been a part of the New Hollywood movement in the 1970s with his brilliant work in The Last Picture Show and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, he transitioned into appearing in larger budget science fiction spectacles in the 1980s, including Tron and Starman. It was due to the clout that Bridges had within the industry that he was able to take a chance on a risky project, and team up with the legendary filmmaker Hal Ashby to make an old-fashioned neo-noir thriller. Unfortunately, 8 Million Ways To Die was a massive critical and financial disappointment that has a rare 0% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

Not every actor is a Samuel L. Jackson, gladly signing an extensive superhero movie contract to play Nick Fury as many times as Marvel Studios wants him. Some are more like James Bond actor George Lazenby, securing an iconic part and then instantly worrying it'll cause typecasting. Meanwhile, some stars can't get along with the studio, while others, unfortunately, die before the role has run its course. No property or individual movie is immune to the possibility of recasting. It's just that some do it a lot better than others.

In the sci-fi realm, long-running franchises often pose unique casting challenges, but others are simply so difficult or so weird that they necessitated unexpected changes. The multiverse offers more recasting possibilities than most, as "Doctor Who" and its endless regenerations -- a sci-fi solution to a real-world problem -- regularly demonstrates. Jeff Bridges made his unofficial screen debut in John Cromwell's 1951 drama "The Company She Keeps" just over a year after he was born. The son of actors Dorothy and Lloyd Bridges, he steadily proved himself a nepo baby of the finest order upon reaching young adulthood. In the 50 years and change since then, he's done it all, be it squaring off with King Kong, riding a light cycle on The Grid, or seeking compensation for the damage to his prized rug. Nico Mastorakis has an uncanny ability of pulling ideas from various sources and running them through the Cuisinart of his peculiar sensibility, producing something altogether idiosyncratic. Special effects master and creature creator Stan Winston is best known for making the monsters seen in such hit films as "The Terminator," "Invaders from Mars," "Aliens," "Alien Nation," "Predator," "Jurassic Park," "Congo," and "The Relic." He also provided makeup and other eerie beings for "The Thing," "Starman," "Edward Scissorhands," "Batman Returns," and "The Island of Dr. Moreau." He received an Oscar nomination in 1982 for his work on the robot comedy "Heartbeeps." His monsters indelibly changed genre cinema for decades, and his death in 2008 was an immeasurable loss. 

Winston also directed a few notable projects. He directed the music videos for Guns N' Roses and Michael Jackson. Winston also helmed the amusement parks-only 3-D "Terminator" interquel "T2 3-D: Battle Across Time" in '96. Winston only ever directed two feature films: the very, very, very odd cop-teams-up-with-a-gnome comedy "A Gnome Named Gnorm" in 1990, and the horrifying monster revenge thriller "Pumpkinhead" in 1988.

The genius of David Bowie didn’t lie so much in how he reinvented his personae but in how he concealed their formations from the world. During the space of about a presidential term, Bowie went from Marc Bolan’s personal mime to a coffeehouse space oddity before settling on Ziggy Stardust, the androgynous alien hero of his classic 1972 album, sent from Mars to liberate the people of Earth from their hangups. The changes arrived at an alarming speed, and he’d cycle through two or three more characters before the Seventies ended.

DC head and the director of the upcoming film Superman James Gunn has firmly dismissed the possibility of including several songs in the new movie, notably David Bowie’s Starman, which fans have been eagerly looking forward to. The song has been featured in multiple movies and shows over the years along with many viral Superman fan edits. Fans even wanted Gunn to use the song for the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

However, he has denied that he would not use the song in the upcoming film. While fans continue to express their wish for the song to be featured in the David Corenswet-starring superhero film, Gunn has remained steadfast in his decision.

My favorite scene in the hilarious new film “The Fall Guy” is the one where Emily Blunt (recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee for “Oppenheimer”) belts out the Phil Collins classic “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” as Ryan Gosling (recent Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominee for “Barbie”) finds himself in a particularly dramatic — and dangerous — sequence of events.

Forty years ago this very month, the famous power ballad had just completed a three-week reign on top of the Billboard Hot 100. “Against All Odds” was the title song from the romantic thriller starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel Ward and James Woods. John Carpenter's 1992 film "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" was a departure for the director. Throughout the 1980s, Carpenter directed many notable genre films that affected a direct and guileless style that roped in many fans and critics. His 1980s "hot streak" included "Escape from New York," "The Thing," "Christine," "Starman," and "Big Trouble in Little China." Although his 1987 film "Prince of Darkness" was nonsensical, it has many defenders, and his 1988 film "They Live" is now considered a seminal anti-establishment punk-rock text of the Reagan era. 

That streak seems to have ended with "Memoirs," however. Although the film is slick, entertaining, and boasts some excellent special effects, many Carpenter fans felt a little off-put by the director's attempts to helm a comedic Chevy Chase vehicle. ‘80s nostalgia is heading back to Netflix’s theaters with Milestone Movies: The Anniversary Collection – 1984.

The Milestone Movies collection will screen across three theaters: New York’s Paris Theater, The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and The Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Selected films turning 40 this year will play in Netflix’s theaters and the 1984 collection is also available to stream.

The Paris Theater in New York City will show blockbusters “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Footloose,” “Gremlins,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Muppets Take Manhattan,” “Natural,” “Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Romancing the Stone,” “Amadeus” and “Splash,” from April 12 to 18.

Dafne Keen brings a unique twist to Star Wars as a "Jedi David Bowie" in The Acolyte, with influences from the legendary musician. Keen listened to David Bowie's song, Starman, on set, which influenced the energy she brought to the character. The Acolyte promises a bold and exciting new storyline, introducing fresh characters like Keen's Jedi with a rockstar edge.

Dafne Keen, who played X-23 in Logan, is making her Star Wars debut in The Acolyte, and she's described the role as a "Jedi David Bowie."

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Keen described how the musician David Bowie influenced her character, and her time on set.
