Wayne Michaels, who plays Ailric of Loxley, is leading man Michael Praed's stunt double and one of the series' general regular stuntmen. Although he is killed off in one the very first scenes of the episode, Michaels can also be seen as a contender in the archery competition later on, as well as a solder chasing Much and Robin through the forest following their little deer incident.
Nasir was not originally supposed to be a recurring character. He was supposed to be killed by Little John in Robin Hood and the Sorcerer (1984), but the producers changed their minds at the last minute. It was Mark Ryan's idea for Nasir to be a quiet character.
Richard Carpenter adapted his scripts for the first series into a Penguin/Puffin book, also titled "Robin of Sherwood", published in 1984. "Robin Hood and the Sorcerer" comprises the first 8 chapters.
  • The novel explains that Much took Robin's bow from a secret hiding place in a hollow oak that only the two of them knew about at the beginning of the story.
  • It is stated that Robin has had brief flashes of future events from a young age, even before meeting Herne the Hunter.
  • Guy of Gisburne was steward to Abbot Hugo at the start of the adventure rather than working for the Sheriff of Nottingham.
  • It is confirmed that Baron Simon de Belleme sacrificed his wife, the Lady de Belleme to Azael a year prior.
  • There is an extra scene after Marion rebukes Baron de Belleme at Nottingham castle in which she asks Brother Tuck about the legend of the Hooded Man. Tuck explains it is a story that gives the people hope and that it involves Herne the Hunter.
  • Robin meets Herne at Evil Mere in Sherwood Forest, a location few people dare to visit. Much thinks there are dragons at Evil Mere.
  • Before washing the pentacle from John's chest to release him from the Baron's spell, Robin removes a small parchment from a leather bag hung around John's neck. There are magical signs on the parchment, but it is snatched away by a gust of wind.
  • When Herne summons Robin while he is with his friends, in the TV show, the others are not shown reacting. In the book, they move nearer to their fire and Little John accuses Herne of being a spirit. Herne takes out a knife and holds it to Robin's forehead, but Robin does not flinch.
  • After returning from Herne and inspiring the men to stay in Sherwood, Robin takes out his new longbow and shows off his marksmanship for the first time.
  • When Marion leaves for Kirlees Abbey, it has been three weeks since Robin and the others escaped from the dungeon.
  • Before they attack Gisburne and the soldiers, Robin confesses to Will Scarlet that he has never killed a man. Scarlet replies "I know. Hell's full. There's no room for us."
  • When the Sheriff tells his brother about the Silver Arrow, 16 years are said to have passed since the burning of Loxley, rather than 15 as shown on screen in the episode.
  • After Robin's first success against Gisburne, a lot of young men from the surrounding villages join his band, which expands to about 20 people.
  • The tournament has an additional round in the book because the Baron insists that Nasir and Robin (posing as Hedger of Castleton) are tied after Robin splits Nasir's arrow. A stick of peeled willow is set up at a 150 paces. The archer that gets closest to it is the winner. Nasir's arrow almost grazes the willow, but Robin manages to split in half.
  • The Baron promises to take care of Robin in exchange for Marion three days after the tournament. The Sheriff's favourite hawk is said to have mysteriously died shortly after the Baron's first visit.
  • Brother Tuck decides to warn Marion and leave the Sheriff's employ, resolving to become a wandering friar. However, the Baron has anticipated that Tuck would do so and thereby get Marion out in the open.
  • In the book, the Baron is attended by three female servants, all of them drugged, rather than two as shown on screen.
  • When Little John asks the merry men who will join him in following Robin come dawn, they roar affirmatively, unlike in the episode.
  • After the battle, when Robin convinces his men to keep on fighting, he notes that they are standing in the place where the village of Loxley used to be.
The prologue opens in the year 1180, and the main story is stated to take place 15 years later, which would make it 1195. The final battle takes place on May the 1st, the Feast of Beltane.
