With a title like The Hoot Owl, I was expecting a film with the Texan cousin of The Owlman from Lord of Tears and The Black Gloves, or maybe the owl costumed killer from Michele Soavi’s Stagefright. As it turned out this was more like The Hills Have Eyes meets The Evictors than any of those films.
The Hoot Owl begins with clips of a man and a very pregnant woman fleeing something. First in an SUV, then on foot. The guy gets killed and we cut away as the woman tries to hide.
Scott and April have bought a house, apparently sight unseen, out in the middle of nowhere. And, along with Scott’s buddy Drew and April’s sister Suzy are...

“Maniacs lick hands too!”
In one of the most unlikely cinematic pairings of all time, David Nelson (who rose to fame as a child star playing alongside his real-life family in the wholesome TV show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet) directs Playboy Playmate and adult star Susan Kiger in this bodycount-heavy, long overlooked slice of Southern fried hack-and-slash – 1982’s Death Screams!
Late one night, a young couple are brutally murdered at a make-out spot by an unseen assailant, their bodies tossed into the nearby river. As the lifeless lovers drift slowly downstream, the residents of the town excitedly prepare themselves for their annual carnival, unaware that a machete-wielding maniac with a twisted grudge is lurking in their midst. When a group of teen revellers plan a late-night after party down in the local cemetery, they unwittingly set the stage for a bloodbath.

Over 350 SAG-aftra performers and their supporters picketed Warner Bros.’ WB Games unit Thursday in Burbank, marching under a blazing sun along a residential street in the shadow of the studio’s famed water tower and shouting chants that included "Death screams are on strike!" The union’s video game job action edged into its third week with no resolution in sight. The picketers, who included actors responsible for voicing the death screams, creature noises and battle cries of such top games as the Batman: Arkham series, as well as those who do performance-capture work for such games, are focused
