Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is set to revisit his 1985 telefilm ‘Janam’ with a theatrical adaptation, shared that the same feelings and emotions still exist, saying the story is relevant in today’s time.
‘Janam’ was a groundbreaking film for its time, not only for its raw portrayal of a sensitive topic but also for its creator’s willingness to share his own experiences.
The film, which starred Kumar Gaurav and Shernaz Patel, received critical acclaim and was even included in the Panorama section of the 1986 International Film Festival of India.
The film, a semi-autobiographical exploration of an illegitimate son’s struggle for recognition from his father, will be brought back to life on stage with Bhatt’s protege Imran Zahid playing the lead role.
Bhatt, who has previously adapted his films ‘Arth’, ‘Daddy’, and ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ for the stage with Zahid in the lead, sees this as an opportunity...

Mahesh Bhatt, who has written the upcoming “1920: Horrors of the Heart”, says the film, despite its ‘horror’ tag, is not just another horror film, but it has an emotional family drama woven into it. Known for his ground-breaking films such as “Saaransh”, “Arth”, and “Naam”, Bhatt last wrote “Hamari Adhuri Kahaani”.
Talking about the “1920” sequel, the writer-director said: “The film is an emotional family drama woven with horror. We have narrated the story around a family drama. People will see and will relate to it as there is a mother, father, sister, all relations in the film.”
Bhatt added: “Vikram and I together have an experience of 90 years. We are bringing our experience together on screen and now we have given the onus to the younger generation to take it forward. I feel at a time like this, post-Covid, to bring a non-star film to theatres and that too in Hindi,...

Veteran Urdu poet Bashir Badr once shared a “secret”. He said: “I have one enemy — his name is Jagjit. Whatever is mine (poetry), people think it is his (when he sings it). That is why I never introduced him to my wife.”
It was an oblique tribute to Jagjit Singh, whose mellifluous voice imbued pure magic in whatever form of verse — classical to popular to religious to folk — he rendered.
In the course of his decades-long musical journey, Jagjit Singh, who was born on this day (February 8) in 1941, endeared himself to generations of music lovers in India and became Indian music’s best-known figure globally after Pandit Ravi Shankar. This was a far cry from his first public appearance — as an uncredited extra in a Rajendra Kumar film.

Revered Indian actor Shabana Azmi, who plays the pivotal role of Admiral Margaret Parangosky in hugely anticipated mega-budget Paramount Plus series “Halo,” describes her experience on the show as “completely different.”
The series is based on Microsoft’s iconic video game “Halo,” a sprawling science fiction epic that involves multiple warring factions and far-flung alien species. Pablo Schreiber plays the central character Master Chief. Azmi’s Parangosky, second billed in the credits after Schreiber, has frequent interactions with Natascha McElhone’s Dr. Catherine Halsey.
“The interesting thing about Margaret is that she’s conflicted, because she is somebody who plays by the rules of the game. She is somebody who is used to giving orders and having those orders obeyed. And here she’s all but manipulated by the scientists to break the rules, because she keeps [hearing] that this will be good for humanity and she does unscrupulous things,” Azmi told Variety.

In the dedication of her revelatory 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the octave-owning pop queen called her children "the physical embodiment of unconditional love." Which they surely are as the apples of their mother's eye, her heart growing "two times over" when they were born. But fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan Cannon also happen to be living a life fit for royalty, only with more demonstrative displays of affection and quite possibly more outfit changes. First, however, we may have to register an objection with Father Time, because somehow the daughter and son that Mariah Carey had with former husband Nick Cannon are turning 10...

Mariah Carey’s sister, Alison A. Carey, has sued the singer for “intentional infliction of emotional distress” caused by statements in her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
In court documents obtained by Rolling Stone, Alison accused Mariah of making unsubstantiated claims about her in a particular chapter, while she also said the publication of — and subsequent press surrounding — The Meaning of Mariah Carey caused further emotional distress. The filing said Alison sent an offer to settle on January 8th but received no response; she’s now seeking $1.25 million in compensation.

There is something supremely sad about a meditation on womanhood and female empowerment gone awry.
Juanita means well. It wants us to enter a black American woman's home and psyche to get to know why she thinks her life as a single mother has snuffed out her real self. We saw a far more credible version of the Black American Dream recently in "If Beale Street Could Talk".
A few months ago, I saw Charlize Theron as a mother going bonkers over her newly born baby. Theron's throbbing angst and bursting bosom blew me away.
Woodard's attempts to make her character's singed existence sing in protest, seems highly misbegotten. Not her fault entirely. The fey script (adapted from the novel "Dancing On The Edge Of The Roof") makes Woodard's gripping mother's part over-stuffed with artistic and emotional baggage.?
