The Nick Pallas character is based on puppeteer Sid Krofft, who produced the film. "It was sort of about my life, but practices and standards wouldn't allow the real story," Krofft remarked on his Instagram show in 2020.
Filmed in 1978.
Years before the movie was made, producer Sid Krofft (on whom the story is loosely based) toured with star Connie Stevens and conservative singer Pat Boone. Krofft and Stevens coerced Boone into a real circus sideshow to see the Half-Man/Half-Woman, but Boone became so disturbed by the human anomaly that he fled the room and quit speaking to Krofft.
