Mission: Impossible 8 Sets Record-Breaking Runtime for the Franchise (& Almost Tom Cruise's Filmography)
Image
Mission: Impossible fans will want to use the bathroom before sitting down for The Final Reckoning. The runtime for the eighth Mission: Impossible movie has reportedly been revealed, and it's a record-breaker.

After trusted runtime scooper Cryptic HD Quality reported on X that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning would clock in at a whopping 2 hours and 51 minutes (171 min), Paramount revealed to ComicBook.com that the official runtime would actually be two minutes less. Even so, The Final Reckoning's 169-minute runtime is still a massive leap from the first Mission: Impossible film, which came in at 110 minutes. The runtimes for the other six entries in the long-running action spy franchise are 124 min (M:I:2), 126 min (M:I:iii), 133 min (Ghost Protocol), 131 min (Rogue Nation), 147 min (Fallout), and 163 min (Dead Reckoning). With the exception of 2015's Rogue Nation, the Mission: Impossible movies have progressively gotten longer with each new installment.

Surprisingly, Mission: Impossible –...

Barbara Hershey at an event for Black Swan (2010)
Back in 1982, Barbara Hershey starred in a horror film called The Entity, which was based on the story of Doris Bither, “a hard-working single mother whose life becomes a nightmare when she is attacked in her bedroom by someone – or something – that she cannot see.” Now, Deadline reports that Heather Graham is set to star in a horror film called Entity Within – which is also based on the Doris Blither story!

Alliance Media Partners represent world sales on the project and will be presenting it to potential buyers at the upcoming Cannes Market. Gvn Releasing is producing the film and will be handling U.S. distribution. Steven Schneider produces alongside German Michael Torres.

'Entity Within': Heather Graham Cast in Fresh Take On Doris Bither Haunting
Image
The 1980s was a tremendous decade for horror movies. We saw the birth of new icons, and were treated to a plethora of practical effects from filmmakers who pushed the limits of acceptable taste. Yet sandwiched in between the likes of Freddy Kruger, Jason Voorhees, and effects wizard Tom Savini was perhaps one of the best supernatural horror movies ever made that doesn't get nearly the love that it should. Maybe now it will get the recognition it deserves thanks to star Heather Graham, who is set to lead a new spin on the true story that inspired 1982's The Entity.

Deadline reports that Graham is set to lead Entity Within, which comes by way of Insidious and Paranormal Activity producer Steven Schneider. Directed by Nick Simon, the film isn't a remake in the traditional sense, but rather a new look at one of the most documented paranormal cases in...

Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) will play Doris Bither in Entity Within, based on one of the most documented supernatural cases in U.S. history, Deadline reports.

Set in 1974 suburban Los Angeles, a single mother is violently attacked by an unseen force in her home. With no one believing her, she turns to a team of paranormal researchers.

Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs) directs from a script by Thomas Fenton (Saw IV). Steven Schneider produces alongside German Michael Torres.

Mimi Rogers (Ginger Snaps), Morgan Peter Brown (Absentia), and Kevin Keppy (Smile) also star.

Gvn Releasing is producing the film and is handling U.S. distribution, with Alliance Media Partners repping the film at the upcoming Cannes Market.

“This film is based on a true story and that truth is chilling,” said Gvn’s Head of Production Missy Valdez. “It is an honor and a challenge to bring Doris’s...

The next mission for Tom Cruise, should he choose to accept it, is to launch his latest (and maybe final?) entry in his major action series — Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — at the Cannes Film Festival. He led off by paying tribute to Val Kilmer who he called a dear friend. Said he was grateful and honored he came back for Top Gun: Maverick. Has us take a moment of silence for him. Ended it with ‘Thank you, Val. I wish you well on your next journey.‘”

CinemaCon brings Tom Cruise’s living manifestation of destiny, Imf agent Ethan Hunt, back for his final reckoning. The upcoming action sequel Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning finds Cruise back in the lead (and running to save the world), with director Christopher McQuarrie taking the reins once again for what’s been promised as a “satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc.”

Tom Cruise was in attendance at CinemaCon to show off a new trailer for The Final Reckoning, and it sounds absolutely bonkers. Check out the footage description, courtesy of ScreenRant.

"The teaser opens with Hunt clinging to the side of a small-engine plane, with snippets from previous movies then flashing across the screen. This includes his CIA vault heist from the original movie, but also the Kremlin bombing from Ghost Protocol and Hunt's gassing of intelligence community leaders in Dead Reckoning.

The trailer then cuts to Hunt being arrested by the military,...

Tom Cruise at an event for Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Six years have passed since Tom Cruise announced that the seventh and eighth films in the Mission: Impossible franchise would be shot back-to-back, and he has been in production on these films for a long time. We saw Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning back in 2024, and now the follow-up, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, is almost ready to make its way out into the world, heading toward a May 23rd release date. This is a huge release for Paramount Pictures, so of course they focused on it in a major way during their panel at the CinemaCon event, showing attendees a new trailer.

Cruise was in attendance for the panel and got his appearance started by leading a moment of silence to honor his late Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick co-star Val Kilmer. JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray reports, “Tom Cruise showed up in person and the exhibitors went nuts.

Tom Cruise Returns To CinemaCon To Show Off ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’
Image
It’s been a long time, Tom Cruise. As CinemaCon heads into its final day, attendees were treated to a visit from one of global exhibition’s most beloved stars. Post Covid, it’s the first time that Cruise has stepped on stage at Caesars Palace at the Colosseum. Even during the year when Top Gun: Maverick was shown off to exhibs, he wasn’t in attendance because he was shooting Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and Final Reckoning. In those years, Cruise has sent video messages to CinemaCon attendees. That said, Cruise has made surprise appearances at CineEurope in Barcelona post-pandemic.

Before showing off a piece of footage, Cruise asked the room to take a moment and remember his dear friend and Top Gun 2 Ice Man — Val Kilmer, who died two days ago.

The Paramount/Skydance actioner directed by Christopher McQuarrie is billed as the epic finale to a...

‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Trailer: Tom Cruise Dangles Upside Down From a Plane in Death-Defying Stunt
Image
“I need you to trust me — one last time.”

That’s Tom Cruise begging his fellow Imf teammates to go on one more death-defying expedition to save the world in a new action-packed Super Bowl trailer for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Paramount Pictures will release the film, which is being billed as Cruise’s final outing as super-spy Ethan Hunt, in theaters on May 23.

The spot doesn’t stint on the crazy stunts that have become the franchise’s signature. At one point, Cruise dangles upside down from a plane, clinging on for dear life. Cruise is no slouch when it comes to risking it all on screen, having previously scaled the side of the Burj Khalifa and piloted a motorcycle off a cliff. But even he seemed to think his latest stunt pushed the limits.

“When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour,...

‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Director Says Someone ‘Almost Had a Heart Attack’ Watching Action Sequence at Early Screening: ‘I Guess We Did Something Right’
Image
Anyone planning to watch “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” may want to have a health checkup beforehand.

According to director Christopher McQuarrie, the final instalment of the Tom Cruise’s hit spy franchise — films that have become known for upping the crazy with each title when it comes to stunts — has a sequence that gave at least one early audience member more than just a shock.

“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack,'” he told Empire magazine in an interview, according GamesRadar. “And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.”

While the sequence in question wasn’t revealed, the trailer for the “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” sees Cruise scuba dive and explore a wrecked submarine, fly and fall out of a biplane and, naturally, do a lot of running.

In “Dead Reckoning,” the...

Was Carla Moran A Real Person? The Entity True Story Inspiration Explained
Image
The following article contains discussions of rape that some readers may find disturbing.

While not common, there are some horror movies based on true stories leading some to question if The Entity's Carla Moran is a real person. Released in 1982, The Entity is a supernatural horror film directed by Sidney J. Furie. Its story of a woman terrorized by vicious unseen attackers sparked huge controversy when The Entity was released, it received an X rating in the United Kingdom and didn't make a huge splash in the US.

In The Entity, when single mom Carla Moran (Barbara Hershey) is assaulted and raped by a poltergeist, no one believes her. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Sneiderman (Ron Silver), believes that she is hallucinating, and even Carla’s teenage son thinks it’s all in her head — at first. Eventually, Carla gets help from two parapsychologists who try to help her get rid of the dangerous entity.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning to shake up the franchise by introducing a young Ethan Hunt?
Image
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning had the highest budget of any film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, somewhere in the range of $290 million… but the box office numbers took a dip, the film ending up with a haul of $566 million at the worldwide box office. A lower amount than Ghost Protocol ($694 million), Rogue Nation ($688 million), and Fallout ($786 million) had earned. And they all had substantially lower budgets. With the next film, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, set to reach theatres on May 23, 2025, the folks working behind-the-scenes might have an idea that the franchise needs to be shaken up a bit. According to a Rumor shared by The Sun, they’re going to attempt to do this by pulling a younger version of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character into the action.

The Sun’s inside source informed them, “Tom is keen to give Mission: Impossible a fresh take in...

Strange Darling distributor is suing its marketing partner over disappointing box office
Willa Fitzgerald at an event for Reacher (2022)
Just before Halloween back in 2022, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. The movie was given a theatrical release back in August, and JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols loved it; you can read his 9/10 review at This Link. It has since moved on to digital and physical media releases… but distributor Magenta Light Productions feels that it should have performed better at the box office, and believe it would have if the film had a better marketing campaign. So they have filed a lawsuit against their marketing partner, Spellbinder.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Magenta Light Productions, in a fraud and breach of contract lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court,...

Everything We Know About Mission: Impossible 8 (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning)

Almost six years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount has backtracked from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

This Controversial 42-Year-Old Horror Movie Is One of Martin Scorsese's Favorites
Image
Some movies are born with a notorious reputation. Sidney J. Furie's infamous 1982 horror film, The Entity, is one such film. In fact, had it not been for the unwavering support that Martin Scorsese has shown this film over the years, there's a pretty good chance that everyone would have forgotten about it by now.

Largely critically derided upon its initial release, The Entity has since seen a reappraisal of both its form and content, one that has given this film, which had previously been rendered an afterthought (at best), a new lease on life. Is The Entity the classic horror film that Martin Scorsese believes it to be, or is it little more than a sleazy picture looking to exploit its subject?

Why Smile 2's Evil Entity is More Brutal While Tormenting Naomi Scott's Sky Riley
Image
Theres plenty for horror fans to Smile about, because filmmaker Parker Finn takes The Entitys savage nature to a whole new level in Smile 2. Finns supernatural duology began thanks to his own short film, Laura Hasnt Slept, back in 2020. Today, though, it's exciting to witness just how deliciously diabolical Finn's new psychological horror sequel is, as the villain begins terrorizing pop star Skye Riley (Naomi Scott). When asked if the increased savagery of The Entity was a result of its mounting victims, or if it was because of Skyes turbulent mind, Finn answered by telling Bloody Disgusting:

A little of both. And I love that you latched onto that because that was exactly what was on my mind, was this sense of feeling like its such a personal thing for each person it interacts with. I really wanted to make sure that it felt really truly tied to Skye and her world,...

In her latest episode of the podcast misSpelling, actress Tori Spelling shared with guest and former co-star Kathleen Robertson, along with her listeners, that she had gotten the Ok from her father to appear topless in the 2001 comedy Scary Movie 2.

In the podcast episode, Spelling and Robertson, who had previously been co-stars on their show Beverly Hills 90210, reminisced about their time on set.

Spelling admitted, “I was so scared I wasn’t gonna get the part because you were in it…You know, here I am trying to transition to the big screen, whatever that means anymore. But, I was like, you know, two 90210 girls?” She added that thankfully, “No one even thought twice about it.”

‘The Casting Of Frank Stone’ Bosses Breakdown ‘Dead By Daylight’ Attributes, Fan Theories And Potential Sequel
Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains plot details for the video game The Casting of Frank Stone

For the last decade, Supermassive Games and Behaviour Interactive have each cornered the market on fun, bizarre and gruesome horror games in their own unique way. The former is most known for their star-studded and award-winning choose-your-own-adventure cinematic tales, such as The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry and Until Dawn, which is currently being made into a movie, that focus on the survival of multiple playable characters based on oft stressful decisions made by the player. The latter, mostly known for the popular online multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight, offers players the ability to enter iconic multiversal horror franchises such as Stranger Things or Silent Hill to test their survival skills (or their murdering skills) in a seemingly never-ending and hellish loop. With each of them continually raising the bar for their respective...

October on the Criterion Channel Includes F/X Scares, Witches, Japanese Horror, Stephen King & More
Image
The Criterion Channel’s at its best when October rolls around, consistently engaging in the strongest horror line-ups of any streamer. 2024 will bring more than a few iterations of their spooky programming: “Horror F/X” highlights the best effects-based scares through the likes of Romero, Cronenberg, Lynch, Tobe Hooper, James Whale; “Witches” does what it says on the tin (and inside the tin is the underrated Italian anthology film featuring Clint Eastwood cuckolded by Batman); “Japanese Horror” runs the gamut of classics; a Stephen King series puts John Carpenter and The Lawnmower Man on equal playing ground; October’s Criterion Editions are Rosemary’s Baby, Night of the Hunter, Häxan; a made-for-tv duo includes Carpenter’s underrated Someone’s Watching Me!; meanwhile, The Wailing and The Babadook stream alongside a collection of Cronenberg and Stephanie Rothman titles.

Otherwise, Winona Ryder and Raúl Juliá are given retrospectives, as are filmmakers Arthur J. Bressan Jr. and Lionel Rogosin.

Evil Ending Explained: The Best Horror Show On TV Ends, And Some Lingering Questions Remain
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Evil."

The age of streaming is full of problems. TV shows are getting extremely expensive, seasons are getting too short while the wait between them becomes too long, and shows are getting canceled before they have a chance to hit their groove. Even when shows are successful according to every metric, they can get canceled just for reasons that have nothing to do with their quality, like corporate cost-cutting.

Such is the case with "Evil," the best horror TV show since "Hannibal" and "The Exorcist." It's a series that mixes network procedurals with all-time great tales of the macabre, giving audiences monster-of-the-week stories that not only feature some of the best creature work on TV, but also tell poignant stories about the hell of modern existence and how the devil can't compare to the evil of the internet and late-stage capitalism. For four seasons, "Evil...

Tom Cruise Closes Paris Olympics With Epic, Death-Defying Stunt
Image
Hollywood superstar and action movie icon Tom Cruise brought the Olympic Games Paris 2024 to an end in the only way he knows how...by risking his life for our entertainment. The Mission: Impossible star leaped from the top of the Stade de France to mark the handover of the Paris Olympics to the L.A. Games, which will take place in 2028.

In a segment worthy of any of Cruises outings as Imf agent Ethan Hunt, Cruise jumped off the roof of the stadium, the biggest in France, and landed effortlessly on the stage where he was given the Olympic flag by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. But it didnt end there, as Cruise then hopped on a motorcycle and rode out of the stadium, with a pre-recorded clip showing the actor leaping from a plane and landing by the Hollywood sign to mark the handover from Paris to Los Angeles.

The curious AI implications of Netflix’s Heart Of Stone
Image
According to the $150m Netflix thriller Heart Of Stone, what the world needs is an all-powerful AI supercomputer to keep it safe from crime.

Nb: The following contains mild spoilers for 2023’s Heart Of Stone.

For reasons best known to Skydance, the multi-million dollar production company released two remarkably similar films in the summer of 2023. You’re probably familiar with the first, released last July – action thriller sequel Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the latest high-wire spectacle for Tom Cruise.

Roughly a month later, though, along came another thriller: Heart Of Stone, an action vehicle for Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot. Despite costing Skydance and its other backers, Pilot Wave and Mockingbird Pictures, somewhere in the region of $150m to make, you may not have heard much chatter about Heart Of Stone – possibly because it appeared on Netflix with a surprising lack of fanfare.

Both Dead Reckoning and...

Tom Cruise Risks His Life in New Look at Mission: Impossible 8 Aerial Stunt
Image
Hollywood icon Tom Cruise is back to doing what he does best risking his life for our entertainment as the actor takes to skies for the latest Mission: Impossible 8 stunt. As revealed in new images from the filming of the action movie sequel, the next Mission: Impossible will find Cruise hanging from an upside-down plane, seemingly with no parachute, as he once again fights to save the world. The images show Cruise holding on for dear life as the small biplane tips upside down and leaves the action superstar dangling. A second pilot can be seen sporting a greenscreen suit, which suggests that they will be digitally removed for the sequence and Ethan Hunt will find himself alone and wondering exactly how he got into another death-defying situation.

The Entity (1982) – Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
Possession is a relatively common topic on this channel and show and that’s probably because it’s something that has been recorded and pushed as factual by the people claiming to be possessed or investigators for a long time. It generally falls under the scope of he said/she said with most of the presented evidence as fact being very up for interpretation. These are almost always then turned into movies as that open for interpretation aspect of it can lead to a bunch of elements being added for entertainment and dramatic purposes. Today we look at a movie that is based on a book that was inspired by a true story. It’s not exactly possession but it is a poltergeist of a movie that is something very different and was taken quite seriously in both real life and as a movie. The Entity (buy it Here) is...

The Scorsese-Approved 80s Ghost Horror Thats Based on a Disturbing Story
Image
Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived, and while Cape Fear and Shutter Island are the rare films of his that are horror adjacent, you can't say that a lot of his movies aren't scary. Would you want to live in the world of Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, or Goodfellas? If anyone is going to understand what makes a movie terrifying, it's Scorsese. So, with that in mind, in 2015 he named his top 11 horror films for the Daily Beast. The Haunting is Scorsese's favorite horror film, with much older black-and-white entries like The Isle of the Dead, The Uninvited, and Dead of Night in his top five, but coming in at number four was a move a little more modern. 1982's The Entity gets lost in an era of similar films like The Exorcist, The Omen, and The Amityville Horror, but it deserves to...

Mission: Impossible 8 Budget Reportedly Reaching All-Time High After Dead Reckoning Lost $200M+ In Theaters
Image
Mission: Impossible 8's budget surpasses $300 million, making it the most expensive installment in the franchise. Previous films in the series had much lower budgets, raising concerns about the eighth movie's box office potential and possible break-even point at $600 million. Tom Cruise's preference for realistic stunts drives the high production costs, with the franchise grossing over $4.09 billion worldwide.

The budget for the highly anticipated Mission: Impossible 8 has reportedly reached a record high. This forthcoming installment in the long-running Mission: Impossible series will follow up on 2023s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. Tom Cruise will reprise the role of Ethan Hunt as his team of Imf agents are desperately searching for The Entity. Since its announcement, Mission Impossible 8 has been involved in a lengthy production process which led to a release delay and several speculations about its outrageous budget.

According to Puck News, the Mission: Impossible 8 budget has reportedly crossed over $300 million,...
