This film was produced in association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and produced with the assistance of the Tasmanian Film Corporation and the Australian Film Commission.
David Bradbury's masters thesis on the Vietnam War evolved into a project to make this documentary film.
In 1977, the Australian War Memorial (AWM) awarded post-graduate student David Bradbury a research grant of AU $4,500 to aid the production of his Masters thesis on the Vietnam War. This proposed to document in film format "Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War as seen through the television camera lens and the eyes of the correspondents covering it". In 1980, as part of a further grant, Bradbury deposited a print of this documentary at the AWM.
In 1990, the the Australian War Memorial (AWM) acquired the original print and sound elements for this film. It also received documentation and transcripts related to the production as well as war cameraman Neil Davis's original 'Visnews' footage relating to this documentary.
This documentary in 1980 won the Grierson Award at the British Documentary Awards.
