Unfortunately, no. The Vereker-saves-the-colors scene was a bit of romantic fiction. The body of William Vereker was found at the scene of the last stand made by Colonel Durnford and his men. I commend the reader to the excellent history of the Zulu War, "The Washing of the Spears", by Donald Morris.
