Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Media company, and Bullrush Pictures, are collaborating on half-hour workplace comedy “Hospital Show.” The series is an adaptation of the popular YouTube series of the same name, created by actor, writer and director Adam Greydon Reid, the founder of Bullrush Pictures.
“Hospital Show” is about the actors who play television’s most respected doctors on the fictional hit primetime medical drama “Critical Condition.” These actors may dispense miracle cures on television, but beneath the gleaming smiles and spotless white coats is a raging fire of high school politics, power trips and puerile shenanigans.
The web series won awards at Stareable Fest Australia’s Afin, the Florence Film Awards, the Canadian Cinematography Awards and the Leo Awards. The short form series has now been picked up by the Roku Channel where it’s streaming in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

As “Saturday Night Live” returned from Winter Olympics hiatus, it did so with a returning host, comedian and former “SNL” writer John Mulaney. Last night’s episode marked Mulaney’s fifth time hosting “SNL,” an anticipated return, both in terms of his past contributions to the show (both in front of and behind the camera) and in light of what’s been going on in his personal life.
Host: John Mulaney
As tends to be the case, a stand-up comedian like Mulaney went with a stand-up comedy set for his host monologue. And he addressed the very public things that have been going on in his life, from his relapses and rehab to his newborn child. Mulaney described it all as “a very complicated year,” but it was clearly a year that provided him plenty of new great stand-up material — even when it came to the January 6 insurrection. After a...

Do you remember Alanis Morissette? Not the Buddhism-practicing, essential-oil-mixing, Earth-mother figure we know today. The first Alanis Morissette. The one who threw on Adidas low-tops and an oversized T-shirt and thrashed her hip-length, un-straightened, un-blonde hair around any stage she could find while absolutely destroying a hook about how her whole purpose in life is to never let some guy forget what a prick bastard he is. That Alanis Morissette.
That’s the one Jagged is concerned with, and man, is it nice to re-meet her. Focused first on Morissette...

In the months following the release of Alanis Morissette’s breakout album “Jagged Little Pill,” one question persisted throughout the glowing coverage of the singer-songwriter’s debut: Why was this gal so angry? It’s a question that director Alison Klayman (“Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry”) thoroughly answers in her “Jagged,” but it’s refreshing to see the not-quite fawning profile engage with something a bit more substantive. That’s not to say the film’s subject isn’t substantive — she is — but this focused look at Morissette’s early years seems hellbent on offering up a glossier-than-necessary veneer on a complex story. When it veers away from a predictable timeline and expected beats, “Jagged” hits its high notes.
As was the case with Morissette’s big break, these moments come care of heightened emotion, like a series of magazine headlines that juxtapose “angry” with “hot” with a startling, queasy regularity.

Singer/actress Alanis Morissette said she was raped by multiple men when she was a 15-year-old Canadian pop star in a new documentary for HBO, reports the Washington Post.
“It took me years in therapy to even admit there had been any kind of victimization on my part,” the singer says in the documentary. “I would always say I was consenting, and then I’d be reminded like ‘Hey, you were 15, you’re not consenting at 15.’” The legal age of consent in Canada is 16.
“Now I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re all pedophiles. It’s all statutory rape,’” she said.
Morissette did not reveal any identities of her alleged rapists. “I did tell a few people and it kind of fell on deaf ears,” the singer also revealed. “It would usually be a stand-up, walk-out-of-the-room moment.”
She has also long-resisted revealing who her hit song “You Oughta Know” is about,...

Happy Thursday,"Pretty Little Liars" fans. We've got some more pretty interesting and great news for you guys on "The Perfectionists" spin off front. The production team has decided to bring on another female character that will be a recurring role. That means she won't be a season regular, but we'll see her just enough to remember that she even exists. The character we are speaking of will be named Dana. The description for Dana is that she will be the new head of security at Beacon Heights University. She will be determined and perceptive almost to the point of omniscience. After recent events, Dana will keep Alison (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish) and the Perfectionists on their toes. Wow, her character sounds like she will mean pretty serious business. According the folks over at Deadline.com, the actress who is playing her is someone that most of you guys might actually recognize.

Are you a fan of SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?? You're in luck! A new indoor theme park is in the works for New Jersey's Meadowlands. It will be called Nickelodeon Universe. NJ.com reported the big news which might actually come as some relief to locals. Now known as American Dream Meadowlands, the area it sits in East Rutherford, New Jersey (right near Giants Stadium/MetLife Stadium) has had dragged out development since it was called Xanadu back in 2002. It was meant to be a sports and recreation area that would have a mall, theater, bowling and more (it even had an indoor ski slope) but after a few bankruptcies, permits, and other issues it's sat as a ridiculous eyesore for all to see driving on the NJ Turnpike. Construction has continued on and off through this year. Nickelodeon Universe is the latest addition...

All hail TeenNICK, the cable network that just launched a block of programming called "Splat," which replays various '90s Nickelodeon series. So far the retro slate has included episodes of "The Adventures of Pete & Pete," "Hey Arnold!," "You Can't Do That on Television," "Kenan & Kel," "Doug," "Clarissa Explains It All," and many more. It's an impressive and comprehensive showing. Fans of '90s Nick -- and if you've ever been on the internet, you've probably encountered a few hundred thousand of them -- are surely thrilled. But today we're shining a spotlight on '90s Nick shows that seem underrated compared to high-profile hits like "Rugrats" and "All That." Here are 10 of our oft-forgotten favorites that deserve a spot on Splat's big orange couch. ...

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia. These days, anything and everything can and will be rebooted.
Variety reports that Nickelodeon is considering reviving some of its classic shows from the '80s and '90s, including "Rugrats," "Hey Arnold!," and "You Can't Do That on Television."
"We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way," said Russell Hicks, president of content and development at Nickelodeon.
The old shows won't necessarily be transformed into new series; they might come back in the form of a movie or special. But the network is hoping to appeal to viewers who grew up watching those shows and now have kids of their own.
Not only that, those Nickelodeon shows helped launch current stars, including Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice, who were in "Victorious." Perhaps the network is hoping to bring them back with guest appearances.

The Toronto Film Festival selection "Guidance" has been picked up by Strand Releasing. The film, starring, directed by and written by Pat Mills, has a premise like a sitcom: an immature former child actor cons his way into a job as a high school guidance counselor and gives typically terrible advice. The protagonist is based on Mills, who appeared on Nickelodeon's "You Can't Do That On Television" when he was a kid. Strand is planning a theatrical release in the Fall. Attention, children of the '90s: The Internet has provided us with yet another way to relive our childhoods, and this one's even cooler than nostalgia programming blocks on Nick at Nite: Nick Reboot, a new website that's livestreaming vintage Nickelodeon shows -- commercials included! -- for your viewing pleasure.
The shows logged on the site originally aired between the early '90s and the early '00s, so there's a wide range of programming to be had. There's "Roundhouse," "You Can't Do That on Television," and "Finders Keepers" on one end, and "The Fairly Odd Parents," "As Told By Ginger," and "The Wild Thornberrys" on the other.
It's a particularly great resource for shows like "The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo," "Space Cases," "What Would You Do?" or "The Secret Word of Alex Mack," beloved shows that haven't aired anywhere recently and are hard to find on DVD. There's...

I don't know if I'd call myself an "alpha male." I don't get dirty. Work on technical things. Or like, enjoy getting sweaty. At the same, I'm relatively tough. As in "a tough guy, eh?"
Starring Ross McCall, perhaps best known as Liebgott, the one Jewish soldier on Band of Brothers, the movie (also apparently known as Knuckledraggers) is a comical take on the modern male's difficulties with women, work and life in general. Omar Gooding is in this, too, of Wild and Crazy Kids fame. It was like a combo of You Can't Do That On Television meets Double Dare only with Donnie Jeffcoat to back Gooding up. Don't ever test me when it comes to classic 90's Nickelodeon programming.

In this week's episode of The Following, Trio Loco's holiday in the country comes to a bloody end, we learn more about Brass Cupcake Debra Parker's obsession with cults, and Claire finds that she has a new admirer.
We pick up where we left off: Probsgay Paul (Adan Canto) has a gun to Ryan's (Kevin Bacon) head, and Joey (don't know, don't care) is trying to decide how to best avoid being an actual character with independent thought processes rather than a plot device with toys. Paul takes Ryan's gun and sends Joey to his room (Joey happily obliges. Success!). Jacob (Nico Tortorello) freaks out, and Ryan tells the trio that the cops, the Feds, the President, Santa Claus and the subscriptions department of the Lillian Vernon catalog all know that they are there, so they'd better f*cking hide.
Jacob is afraid to approach Ryan to tie him up,...

I am in my late twenties. And as someone in my late twenties, I was raised by the loving hands of cable television, Nickelodeon in particular. For those of you who are unaware, '90s Nickelodeon was the fucking tits.
Do you even know how truly fascinating the world of '90s Nickelodeon truly is? Yeah, we all know that Michelle Trachtenberg, Ben Stiller's wife and the Rilo Kiley guy got their starts there (though I choose to remember him properly -- hanging out with Adam Scott and Ethan Suplee at John Adams High). But do you even know how many awesome people guested on "The Adventures of Pete and Pete"? Did you know that the crippled doctor from "ER" wrote episodes of "Hey Dude"? Because she did, you guys. She did.

['How I Met Your Mother' - 'Glitter']
Has a piece of the "game changer" puzzle fallen into place?
Remember in the first episode this season, when Ted was sitting outside a wedding, anxious about giving a toast? Marshall, also clad in a tux, was outside with him, reassuring him that everything will go fine. We know, at least according to Old Ted's narration, that this is where Ted meets "the one."
So what happened between Ted and his old high school friend Punchy made things very intriguing.
But, to be honest, that story was a very distant second behind what everyone wanted to see this week: more Robin Sparkles! And if you love not-so-double entendre, this episode was probably your favorite of the season. Why? Let's just say that Canadian kids' television wasn't exactly wholesome. I'll never look at old episodes of 'You Can't Do That On Television' the same way ever again.

Are you ready for Conan O'Brien to return to late-night television? His new program starts in November on TBS and the first promo is out -- it's very Monty Python-esque, no? It also reminds us just a bit of the credits for "You Can't Do That on Television."
Before then, it's quite possible that O'Brien will win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy series during the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards -- which is, funnily enough, being broadcast on NBC.
The show premieres Monday, Nov. 8, but there is no word yet on the first week's guests, but considering Hollywood's support of Team Coco, we think it might be a pretty fun week. What do you think they should call his program?
Update: A previous version of this article said there was no premiere date set, when in fact it is Nov. 8. The post has been corrected.

July 1st is Canada Day, and we thought we'd take a moment to honor our friends to the north. Canada has always seemed like a friendlier version of the U.S., and is far ahead of us when it comes to marriage-equality. Plus they've given us such fabulous pop culture treasures as Sctv, The Kids In The Hall, Degrassi, Bumper Stumpers, You Can't Do That On Television and Ryan Reynolds.
Most importantly, they taught as that no one, no one! can take away our right to fight and to never surrender.
Canada can also be proud of their contributions to gay visibility, and we're spotlighting some of those men here. This is just a smattering of the out Canadians we admire, and feel free to add your own favorites.
Btw, we haven't forgotten about Canadian lesbian icons k.d. Lang and Tegan & Sara, but this list is just about dudes.

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you. At least that's what Alanis Morissette told us in the video for her 1996 single "Ironic." She was only 21 years old then, but already a wise storyteller with a killer voice and sense of musicality. Today, Morissette celebrates her 36th birthday, so if you happen to pass her in the street, be sure to hand her a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery or a cup of peach oolong from Teany (she spends the bulk of her time in New York City).
Morissette has come a long way since the unbridled rage of Jagged Little Pill. Her breakthrough album was full of bile and featured post-riot grrrl arrangements that melded pop production with savage garage and punk rock. Jagged Little Pill ruled the pop universe for the better part of two years, as she just kept breaking singles (the album came out...

On Tuesday, April 27, Independent Film Channel (IFC) launches a second season of its surreal cooking/puppet show "Food Party," featuring host Thu Tran, an artist who studied glass-blowing at the Cleveland Institute of Art before moving to New York to pursue her vision.
That dream has now led her to a Brooklyn warehouse overstuffed with colorful puppets and handmade props, where she and several of her fellow Cleveland art students create her strange and colorful show, set in a hand-crafted, brightly hued cardboard kitchen.
"Oh, yeah," she tells Zap2it, "I always knew I'd have a TV show, and I knew that path [of studying glassblowing in Cleveland] was the path I needed to take to go about it. I love TV. I didn't know what I was doing in school. I just knew that I liked to make art. Glassblowing, at the time, was a really fun thing to do, just because it was a very immediate thing.

We've introduced you before to Mike of Milwaukee, the internet critic that made something that could have been awful -- a 10-part, 70-minute video series on the failings of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace -- into something like a cathartic work of art. Naturally, it was only matter of time before Mike turned his knives on Attack of the Clones, and if you can skip past the unnecessary live-action interludes that allude to Mike's propensity to chop up women (stick to what works, Mike!), it's another keeper. Are we the only ones who picture Barth from You Can't Do That On Television when listening to these? [via Hollywood Elsewhere]

A Canadian upbringing is about more than just playing lots of winter sports and having maple syrup instead of regular syrup on our pancakes. Regular exposure to Canadian television has long been an important part of what makes our childhood different from that of our brethren to the south. Now, Canadian television is decidedly less polished than American television. We grew up watching the genuinely awkward adolescents of Degrassi Street, not the beautiful airbrushed twentysomething "teenagers" of "Beverly Hills 90210." Bizarre, crudely drawn National Film Board short cartoons such as "The Log Driver's Waltz," "The Big Snit," and "The Cat Came Back" were a staple of the 1970s and 1980s, while American kids were tuning in to shows like the "Care Bears." One of our most revered television superheroes was Mr. Canoehead, a dude whose crimefighting "superpower" was to knock out criminals by, well, turning around and whacking them with the...
