Sex & Nudity

  • The lobby of the dance academy has a few wooden statues with nipples, but it is very hard to see.
  • No actual sex or nudity is present at all.
  • Suzy's nipples poke through her shirts at various times.
  • Sarah and Suzy swim in the pool in rather tight bathing suits (Sarah wears a one piece and Suzy wears a t-shirt like top with bikini bottoms). Sarah and Suzy's nipples can be seen poking through their suits. Also, in a few shots, you can see both of their genitals bulging behind the swimsuit fabric.
  • Ballerinas are central to the film. They are seen wearing form-fitting leotards.

Violence & Gore

  • A number of gruesome and bloody scenes throughout.
  • It is implied that a dog "tried to mutilate a child". Nothing at all is shown, you only hear it bark and the boy scream.
  • A woman is killed offscreen by falling debris. We see her body impaled by metal beams, and a large shard of glass is jammed in her face. Very graphic.
  • A rabid bat is covered with a sheet, then bashed several times with a stool, killing it. Blood stains onto the sheet.
  • A dog brutally rips a man's throat open and is seen eating the flesh. Very graphic.
  • A woman smashes through a mirror, covering herself in blood. She then falls into a pit of razor wire and becomes severely bloodied as she struggles in the wire. Her throat is then slit in extreme close up. Very graphic and prolonged scene.
  • A woman is stabbed through the neck with a large glass needle. The needle is seen pushing out against the flesh before ripping through her skin and coming out the back of her neck. Bloody and graphic.
  • A woman's corpse is found with her wrists nailed to an operating table. She has bloody cuts all over her, as well as metal pins stuck in her eyes. Quite graphic. Later on, the corpse comes to life, spitting out blood and maniacally laughing. Very graphic and disturbing.
  • Killings are gruesome and very bloody, however they are totally outdated to today's standards.
  • In the film's most iconic sequence, a woman's face is smashed through a window, before she is stabbed several times from a distance. The killer then ties a cable around her waist, before stabbing her even more. One shot showcases her exposed, beating heart getting punctured by the knife. She then crashes through a glass roof, and her bloody corpse is seen hanging by the neck. Copious amounts of gore and fairly disturbing.
  • It's implied that an explosion burns and kills several people, although only the explosion itself is seen while screams are heard. We see many people with blood pouring down their faces and heads. Gruesome.

Profanity

  • Daniel is thrown out of the school unfairly and goes on a minor tirade. He calls a woman a "bitch" about 3 times and also says "g*ddamn" once.
  • 3 or 4 uses of bitch, 1 use of damn, andthe rest is name-calling (busybody, idiot, snake, etc..)

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Part of Suzy's restricted diet consists of small amounts of wine drank in moderation approved by a doctor. This is to keep her blood levels stabilized.
  • Some use of cigarettes and alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is a beautiful and sometimes horrifying and eerie suspenseful horror film, with lots of nightmare worthy soundtrack music, and gory deaths, which are pretty surprising.
  • Some jumpscares are found in the film too, usually accompanied with a loud sound effect and terrifying music.
  • This is a very suspenseful and scary movie, with multiple nightmarish sequences and a number of graphic death scenes.
  • The ending is very startling and terrifying.
  • The film's famous soundtrack is known to be one of the scariest of its kind. Using unique instruments and being paired with creepy wailing, chanting, screaming, and other disturbing sound effects. The music acts as a large contribution to the fear factor.
  • The film's production design, lighting, cinematography, and musical score all intentionally violate traditional horror formula to create a uniquely unsettling atmopsphere.
