Some things never go out of style, and Dracula is one of them. Bram Stoker’s novel helped to fully define the vampire in the cultural consciousness. Almost 130 years since its publication, it remains hugely popular, with the new horror comedy Renfield giving the one and only Nicolas Cage a chance to don the cape.
The vampiric character is the most adapted in film and television history aside from Sherlock Holmes, so we have a full century of bloodsucking variety to revel in. There are the classics, of course, from Bela Lugosi to Gary Oldman in Francis Ford Coppola’s famous interpretation. But then there are the adaptations that make us wonder what the director was going through when they made it. You can do basically anything with vampires and it’ll make sense, but these Dracula revamps seriously test that.

Satan’s Cheerleaders: Chaves Dowses Shallow Waters in Spiritless Witch Hunt
As we continue to plunder the mixed-up files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the infamous paranormal investigators behind the eventual genre staple The Amityville Horror, it’s clear we’ve now bypassed a state of diminishing returns. The third outing featuring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the sincerely quaint, lavishly vintage ghostbusters, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, riffs off a documented courtroom drama to explore the alleged demonic possession of a murderer. Foregoing legal proceedings for familiar supernatural antics, however, the innate strangeness of both the Warrens and this case are lost in a tepid fog of pseudo-religious histrionics.…...

You know how some genre films just have strange backgrounds? People involved that you’d never believe would have anything to do with a horror film? Getaway is one of those films… You see this film is co-written and directed by Lane Toran. Who’s he you might ask? He’s only the voice of Arnold in the classic Nickelodeon cartoon Hey Arnold! and the voice of King Bob in Recess! Yes, a former childrens TV star turns genre filmmaker, its’ safe to say Getaway is worlds apart from those roles – but Toran isn’t the first to make the jump from kids TV to horror and he won’t be the last.
However, judging by Getaway, not only will Toran have...

Cheerleaders are kind of like train wrecks. I cannot stop staring, even though I know no good can come of it. Not surprisingly, I did not hang out with the cheerleaders in high school. I hung out with the burn-outs who enjoyed bad horror movies with me - especially bad cheerleader horror movies. Maybe it is the fact that they are always portrayed as slutty idiots who are always naked that makes them a satisfying kill. Whatever it is, I can't get enough dead cheerleader movies. Satan's Cheerleaders (1977) This is the film that started it all for me in the cheerleader horror sub-subgenre. A group of cheerleaders on their way to the "big game" break down and have to hitch a ride. Then end up getting...
