Sex & Nudity

  • No sex or nudity seen. There are references to the fact that the killer may become sexually excited through harming others (sadism) and that he bit a woman on the stomach and breasts during an offscreen attack.
  • A young boy's buttocks are briefly seen as he swings from an old tire on a rope and jumps into a lake with another boy. This is the only nudity but it happens so fast not everyone sees it.

Violence & Gore

  • The violence for a horror movie is rather tame. Some blood is shown but not much. People are shot and stabbed and also bludgeoned over the head with blunt weapons. However this is not as bloody as you would think.
  • A woman is shot through the cheek and you see a bloody bullet hole appear. She is then shot in the head and blood squirts across the wall. Probably the bloodiest part of the movie, though still not super graphic.

Profanity

  • "Damn" is used frequently
  • "Hell" is used frequently.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • We see chaperones sneak alcohol into a teen party.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The events of the film are based on the real life Phantom Killer, who to this day remains uncaught. This may be disturbing to some viewers.
  • The film is less disturbing than it could have been as it does contain some cheesy slapstick comedy between the police officers investigating the case.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Male police officers disguise themselves as females and pretend to date other male police officers to bait the killer. The scene is played for laughs and no sex happens.
