Not to be confused with some other Shuji Terayama movies (Grass Labyrinth and Smallpox Tale), The Labyrinth Tale aka A Tale of Labyrinth is a curious short film presented through a filter of green, blue and white, which sometimes completely consumes the screen in fits of overexposure.
It's a movie about two guys who carry a door which opens to various strange landscapes. The doorway is a metaphor for the movie screen, which also tends to take people into different realms. This is never made clear though, as the film is plagued by Terayama's characteristic displays of quirky randomness. The music shifts from a boring piano tune to catchy street music, while the characters are so typically terayamish; men in white face paint and naked women (also in white face paint) leering at the audience. Weird but not entirely inaccessible.
