Blooper

One problem encountered when filming with children is that they can unexpectedly lose their milk teeth. Sophie Neville, playing Titty, lost an eye tooth partway through filming a scene on Wild Cat Island with Virginia McKenna, playing her mother. You'll see it in one scene, then it will suddenly vanish, only to re-appear again. The director was not very pleased that his continuity was blown and but there was no tooth fairy on location.

Captain Flint begins to play the accordion for the Swallows and Amazons as they celebrate in the houseboat. As the music swells, you can hear the director call, 'Go round' as he wanted them to dance about.

When the children are fishing from the boat the fish that John catches is very clearly already dead when he catches it.

Suzanna Hamilton, playing Susan, really did forget her basket at the charcoal burners' hut. Old Billy called her back and she ran to collect it.

Susan inadvertently burnt Roger with the large flat frying pan, which she was swinging off the camp fire. He was brave but flinched and she muttered 'Sorry', before continuing with the scene.

When Titty pushed Swallow off from the landing place, sending John, Susan and Roger off to find the Amazon River, she slipped on a rock and slid into the lake. Her dress was soaking wet as she waved them Farewell.
