After helping a stabbing victim to the hospital, a man begins to receive anonymous threats. The only way to save his wife and child is to unravel the mystery of the killer's identity.

Amit Shrivastav works for Glaxo company in Bombay and lives a happy life with wife Sheela and son Bunty he frequently attends office parties as his job permits him to do but Sheela is bored of attending such parties.Once on his way to party he sees a man getting stabbed in mid of the road and killer escapes, as no one is willing to come forward for help Amit admits the victim to hospital and moves towards the party venue.But next day on wards Amit starts getting mysterious calls from the killer at his office and home asking him for a piece of paper recovered from the stabbed victim.The stabbed victim is identified as a journalist and Inspector Jadhav finds that he was about to expose a known personality in few days.The killers tries to enter Amit's house in order to recover the piece of paper and kills his Dog Johnny,Amit who was not cooperating with cops till then fearing his family might be harmed decides to corporate with the cops.But the killer is is watching his every move and plans to kidnap Bunty so and asks him to kill the journalist .—alex.mjacko@gmail.com

While driving to a party Amit Srivastav (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Sheela (Moushumi Chatterjee) watch a man getting stabbed. Amit stops to help the man, and even takes him to a nearby hospital. The man is Mr. Verma, a reporter, about to expose an influential and wealthy person. A few days later, Amit starts to receive telephone calls from a man, warning them, and asking them for information Mr. Verma had with him. Amit does not know about this information, and decides to keep it to himself. Strange incidents strange troubling the couple, And then Amit and Sheela's son, Rajoo (Master Bunty) disappears. Amit Srivastav (Amitabh Bachchan) and Sheela Srivastav (Moushumi Chatterjee) are married to each other and live with their son Bunty. Amit is fond of attending office parties, but Sheela resists going to them. Amit says that if he doesn't show up, his bosses get angry, and to progress in life, networking is important. Sheela believes that to progress in career only hard work counts.

One night on their way to a party, they encounter a murder of a press reporter at Worli Sea Face at around 8:15 PM, although Amit was not able to catch a glimpse of the killer. The reporter falls unconscious due to his injuries, and nobody is willing to help him as this is a police matter. Amit helps the stabbed victim to the hospital, where Amit and Sheela are made to wait till the police arrive and record Amit's statement. A man observes all the events while hiding. Finally, a doctor is assigned to the stabbed victim and the hiding person is discovered by a nurse, and he runs away.

Amit & Sheela go to the party where Amit gets drunk & meets a colleague Poonam (Helen) who hits on Amit & angers Sheela. Amit and Poonam used to study together in college and Poonam never married indicating that she still has feelings for Amit. Amit's boss is Mr Sharma (DK Sapru). Amit's colleagues Salim (Viju Khote) and a friend (Sharat Saxena) admonish him for getting involved in a police matter.

Amit has a pet dog Jhonny who always seems to bark at one of their gossipy neighbors Chachi (Shobha Khote) and at their milkman. As Amit leaves from home, he finds a piece of a torn invitation card in the back seat of his car, which he throws away carelessly.

Amit begins to receive anonymous threats to kill the press reporter before he gains consciousness or else he would kill & his family instead. Amit doesn't give it much heed & visits the hospital where the mother, wife & kids of the injured reporter express their gratitude towards Amit. The same day at office, Amit (who is a senior executive at Glaxo, the manufacturers and distributors of Glaxose-D energy drink in India), is congratulated by his boss for having an educated and simple wife. Sheela was feeling uncomfortable at the party the night before & Amit was trying to defend her behavior in front of his boss.

Inspector Jadhav and his boss Police Commissioner (Iftekhar) are under a lot of pressure to solve the attack on the reporter as the entire Mumbai media community is up in protest against police inaction. The stabbed reporter's colleague informs Jadhav that the reporter had confided a few days earlier that he was going to unmask a prominent personality, who pretends to be a kind and honest man in public but is an evil and unethical man in reality.

Amit finds that the glass in the back window of his car has been broken, as if someone for looking for something. Amit goes back home and retrieves that torn piece of invitation that he had thrown away out of the car that morning. The killer seems to know where Amit is at all times & calls him precisely when he is near the phone at home or at the office. Sheela takes Amit & Bunty out to see an Astrologer (Dev Kishen), who tells Amit that the next 3 days are going to be tough & asks him to be courageous. When they come back, they see that someone had fed Jhonny some poisoned biscuits through the gap under the main door.

The killer calls Amit & demands to meet him the next day at 6 pm at a public place. Amit involves the police & inspector Jadhav (Satyen Kappu) offers to help Amit by videotaping the area & posting policemen in disguise to catch the culprit when he turns up. Amit also gives the piece of torn invitation card to Jadhav for further investigation. But the killer gets a whiff of police presence in the area & manages to put a note in Amit's trousers without anyone noticing, threatening his family. The videotape that Jadhav made reveals that a man came close to Amit while he was waiting for the killer, but only his back was facing the camera, and hence his face was not visible.

The killer captures Amit's son and demands the evidence that he has got. The only way to save his child is to unravel the mystery of the killer's identity. Amit and Inspector Jadhav together find the real killer. The killer calls Amit delivers him a cyanide powder capsule & asks him to use that to kill the press reporter who is still in the hospital, unconscious. Amit goes to the hospital, with the intention of killing the reporter, desperate to save his son, but can't bring himself to kill an innocent person. He confides the killer's instructions to the police.

Inspector Jadhav traces the event that was printed on the torn piece of the invitation card that Amit found. The event is a charity ball hosted by renowned businessman Kishanlal (Prem Chopra). Amit identifies him as the killer via his voice & his distinct phrases that he uses in his speech. Inspector Jadhav doesn't believe him, so Amit decides to follow Kishanlal (after the event), all by his own.

In the meantime, the reporter gains consciousness & reveals to Inspector that Jadhav that Kishanlal is indeed the killer. Kishanlal is a smuggler & the reporter was going to reveal the truth, which is why Kishanlal stabbed him & tried to kill him.

Kishanlal sees Amit chasing him, he picks Amit's son from the hideout & tries to escape by taking control of a Bombay suburban train. Amit & Inspector Jadhav follow the train in their cars. The train comes to a stop at the edge of Bombay where the electrical overheads lines end. Kishanlal has to get off & is apprehended by Amit who beats him & saves Bunty. Jadhav arrests Kishanlal.
