With a title shortened from Witches of Amityville Academy (probably so as not to give anyone the wrong impression that this is a teen movie a la Sabrina), Witches of Amityville tells the story of Jessica who, when receives an invitation to attend an exclusive academy, jumps at the chance to go to a prestigious school. However, on her first night, when she sees another newcomer murdered in front of her, she realises something is very wrong. She discovers the academy is actually a cover for a coven of witches and she has hidden powers that might just help save her life and escape their evil clutches…

Made for television horror films thrived in the 70's with strong offerings like Trilogy of Terror, Satan's School For Girls, The Initiation of Sarah, and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. However, in the 80's there was a decline in quality. In the 90's TV horror movies thrived yet again, especially those that were adpatations of Stephen King books. We got such films as It (1990), Sometimes They Come Back, The Stand, The Tommyknockers, The Longoliers and the Shining (1997). My pick for favorite made for television horror film is also another adaptation of a Stephen King work and a remake at that. Before you get all made at me for picking a remake, let me argue the facts of the case. So I give you…..

The Believers (1987) Favorite occult themed horror movie? Hmmmm...... odly enough TV movies come to mind right away - The Initiation of Sarah, I've Been Waiting For You and Satan's School for Girls. I've been meaning to get around to watching that remake of Ssfg with Shannon Doherty in it for a minute now, now that I think about it! While, I enjoyed the above films, especially I've Been Waiting For You, my pick goes to a film that I think is one of the scariest horror films to have ever come out and it ranks in my top 10 horror films of the 80's. So without further hesitation, I give you........
The Believers - The Believers involves a father and son coping with the death of their wife/mother, but they won't have much time to get their lives back together as the son has been selected to be the next...

It looks like a week of just a few hits and mostly misses when it comes to DVD and Blu-ray releases, but as always, it's our job to keep you guys in the loop on what's coming, so head on in and see what you might want to add to your collection.
First on the list is The William Castle Film Collection, a must-have for all ages. And it includes the stellar Spine Tingler! The William Castle Story (review here) documentary, so it's definitely a win-win. Finally, the long-awaited 100 Feet hits the home market, and while I must admit I was a bit disappointed in the ending, it was a fun ride while it lasted, and Famke Janssen gives her all. Another fun ride (again, up until the predicable ending) is Blood: The Last Vampire; if you're planning on picking it up and have the tech, be sure to grab the Blu-ray.
