October’s here and it’s time to get spooked. After last year’s superb “’70s Horror” lineup, the Criterion Channel commemorates October with a couple series: “Universal Horror,” which does what it says on the tin (with special notice to the Spanish-language Dracula), and “Home Invasion,” which runs the gamut from Romero to Oshima with Polanski and Haneke in the mix. Lest we disregard the programming of Cindy Sherman’s one feature, Office Killer, and Jennifer’s Body, whose lifespan has gone from gimmick to forgotten to Criterion Channel. And if you want to stretch ideas of genre just a hair, their “True Crime” selection gets at darker shades of human nature.

It’s not all chills and thrills, mind. October also boasts a Kirk Douglas repertoire, movies by Doris Wishman and Wayne Wang, plus Manoel de Oliveira’s rarely screened Porto of My Childhood. And Edgar Wright gets the “Adventures in Moviegoing” treatment,...

While Dead Island 2 was getting all the love during E3, Dead Island: Epidemic is currently in the Beta testing stage and is available as an early access offering on Steam. Today, Deep Silver released a brand new trailer that gives new players an overview of the game and shows off some brand new gameplay footage:

There have been numerous films with ‘Deadly’ in the title. In 1957 Nathan Juran brought us a movie called The Deadly Mantis, about giant praying mantis, who voraciously preys on American military. In 1974 Doris Wishman brought us a movie called Deadly Weapons, about a busty woman who goes after mobsters for killing her boyfriend. In 1984 Charles E. Sellier Jr. brought us a movie called Silent Night, Deadly Night, about boy who goes on a murderous rampage dressed as Santa. In 1986 Wes Craven brought us a movie called Deadly Friend, about a robot named "Bb” whose brain gets implanted into a human girl. In 2014 Jared Masters is bringing us a movie called Deadly Punkettes, about a teenage girl band that gets terrorized by a former member’s ghost.

Frolic Pictures has confirmed wrapping principle photography and moving into post-production. The film was shot in Hollywood, California and will be released next year.

Chesty Morgan gets tied up before the bust--or vice versa--in Double Agent 73.

Chesty Morgan’s Bosom Buddies, a trio of films from the Something Weird Video label of cult favorites, two of which feature the noted pneumatic 1970s sexploitation star Chesty Morgan, finally makes the leap to high-definition via their release on Blu-ray from Image.

Chesty, of course, was that excessively endowed starlet who originally hailed from Poland. She came to America and ultimately became a burlesque queen and grindhouse film star whose measurements included a reported 73Ff bustline!

The three movies included in the Bosom Buddies collection—all directed by sexploitation auteur Doris Wishman–are, well, really bad. But they’re bad in that cheap, ridiculous, grindhouse way that also makes them so so entertaining!

The 10th annual Lausanne Underground Film Festival is a truly epic film event with an immense lineup of the strangest, sexiest, most grotesque, oddball and downright freakish movies from all over the world — from modern underground treats to classic cult movies of yesteryear.

The fest officially begins on Oct. 15 with a special live performance by the legendary Diamanda Galas. But the film festivities run from Oct. 17-23, starting with the grand opening of an exhibition and retrospective of the films by Ericka Beckman.

The full film lineup, which is presented below, is a massive mix of underground greatness, but here are some of the highlights:

“We love the filmmakers because without them we’d all just be here drinking.” So noted CineKink Film Festival founder Lisa Vandever after calling for a round of applause at this year’s midtown kickoff at the Taj Lounge, which saw burlesque performances — by Leta Le Noir, Sweet Lorraine and “N — “The Only Letter in Burlesque” followed by a small shorts program. With films containing a slick music video/Calvin Klein commercial aesthetic (Roy Raz’s The Lady Is Dead from Israel), to scenes of anatomical pottery (Debi Oulu’s My Erotic Video Art, another flick from Israel — what’s up with the Israelis?) to visuals as predictable as its title (Love Hotel from its better-named, Spanish director Erika Lust) the diversity on display served as a teaser, naturally, to the eclectic main event. And then there was my evening favorite from the good ole U.S.A. Toby Fell-Holden...
