This article contains spoilers for "Agatha All Along" episode 5, "Darkest Hour/Wake Thy Power."
Each episode of "Agatha All Along" — the newest Marvel series on Disney+ that is Good, Actually despite the crybaby "fans" claiming otherwise — has played out like Marvel trying its hand at making escape rooms. As Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) and her coven make their way down The Witches' Road, each witch must be tested on their unique abilities in a house that changes the world's appearance depending on who is being tested. Episode 3 featured potions expert Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) tested in an opulent suburban McMansion like something out of "Big Little Lies," while the protector witch Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) broke the generational curse of her rockstar mother in a live music performance resembling a cross between "Daisy Jones and the Six" and the legendary Stevie Nicks. This week's episode finally put the broken Agatha Harkness to the test,...

It may not have registered on the scale of the Moon landing, the “Mash” finale or the denouement of “Survivor” Season 1, but this was an incredibly momentous week for the business of television.
The parade of second quarter earnings reports for major showbiz conglomerates made it crystal-clear that there is no more avoiding the 800-pound gorilla on the balance sheets of Big Media. It’s been a long time coming that the valuations long applied to old-fashioned cable channels have to be slashed by double digits.
And that’s what happened this week with Warner Bros. Discovery taking its eye-popping $9.1 billion write-down on the valuation of its core cluster of advertising-supported channels. Paramount Global did the same thing a day later, slicing $6 billion from the valuation of its MTV group outlets. AMC Networks buttoned up the week Friday by taking a $97 million charge to reflect the diminished returns coming from...

Some actors are so good they can consistently draw attention without even trying. But Carol Burnett might be the only living legend who can literally steal scenes in her sleep. The 91-year-old actor just received her 23rd Primetime Emmy nomination for her supporting work in the satirical comedy “Palm Royale” — for playing a character who spends a good part of the season in a coma.
Created by Abe Sylvia and set in 1969, “Palm Royale” casts Burnett as Norma Dellacorte, a beloved and feared grand dame of Florida society who has been bedridden since a pulmonary episode. Her caretaker becomes Maxine Simmons-Dellacorte (played by fellow Emmy nominee Kristen Wiig), the wife of Norma’s nephew, but can only communicate her disdain through a series or groans and gibberish. Yet Burnett makes her limited capacities a master class in acting.
While that might sound difficult, Burnett dismisses such ideas. “It wasn’t a challenge at all,...

Bob Newhart, the deadpan star of “The Bob Newhart” show, has passed away at the age of 94. The news of Newhart’s passing was announced by his longtime publicist Jerry Digney.
George Robert Newhart was born on September 5, 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois. The young Newhart was raised Roman Catholic, with his sister Mary Joan becoming a nun later in life. He enrolled at Loyola University of Chicago and graduated with a bachelor’s in business management in 1952. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War until 1954. He attended Loyola University’s law school for a time but later dropped out. Newhart then worked as a clerk in an unemployment office and as an accountant.
In 1958, he took to being an advertising copywriter for a prominent Chicago film and television producer. In his free time he’d record scenarios and skits he’d utilize as audition tapes.

When Shelley Duvall was cast to play Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” (1980), the film she would become most famous for, it was overwhelmingly the most mainstream movie she’d ever done — but more to the point, it was the most mainstream character. Duvall, who died July 11 at 75, had spent the better part of a decade playing vibrant kooks and eccentrics in Robert Altman movies. She had also rocked that cameo in “Annie Hall” as a Rolling Stone reporter who dates Alvy Singer and says, “Sex with you is really a Kafkaesque experience.”
But in “The Shining,” Duvall, with her feather voice and beaming doll-like features, was suddenly called on to incarnate the essence of normality. And she did it as if born to it. She played Wendy in long black lank hair, toning down her natural Texas drawl to something that sounded more neutral and Midwestern. The...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is weighing in on comedians who say political correctness affects their comedy.
The Veep star is not opposed to being sensitive to certain topics and doesn’t think being politically correct threatens comedy.
“If you look back on comedy and drama both, let’s say 30 years ago, through the lens of today, you might find bits and pieces that don’t age well,” Dreyfus told The New York Times in an interview. “And I think to have an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing. It doesn’t mean that all comedy goes out the window as a result.”
She continued, “When I hear people starting to complain about political correctness — and I understand why people might push back on it — but to me that’s a red flag, because it sometimes means something else. I believe being aware of certain sensitivities is not a bad thing.

Jerry Seinfeld has been a recognized comedy star since the early ‘90s, but he has some concerns about modern audiences no longer being interested in watching comedies on their televisions just like what they used to do back in the day.

Not only did he blame the advancement of technologies, but he also pointed out how people often police comedy lines and jokes thrown on-air. This simply means that everything they say on screen can either make or break their career due to the rise of cancel culture.

Jerry Seinfeld said in an interview with The New Yorker while touting his feature directorial effort “Unfrosted” that “P.C. crap” and the “extreme left” is making television comedy go extinct. Seinfeld is a sitcom icon thanks to his eponymous NBC sitcom that ran between 1989 and 1998, but he says viewers no longer flock to their television sets in order to get their comedy fix like they did for decades.
“Nothing really affects comedy. People always need it. They need it so badly and they don’t get it,” Seinfeld said. “It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go, ‘Oh, “Cheers” is on. Oh, “Mash” is on. Oh, “Mary Tyler Moore” is on. “All in the Family” is on.’ You just expected, ‘There’ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight.’ Well, guess what—where is it? This...

Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a parody that was done right. You don’t even have to go past the first 10 minutes of the anime to know that it is a Harry Potter rip-off. But its adorable (dumb) protagonist makes it stand out from any other parody or comedy series.
Honestly, how many series have you watched that have visibly taken so many elements from a famous franchise and still managed to become famous? From the muscle-headed Mash to his equally silly friends, the anime does not miss a single beat to make you laugh.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into some of the major similarities between Mashle and Harry Potter that stare you in the face.

Plot: When a signal from an uncharted area of Hollow Earth riles up Godzilla, Monarch’s team has to investigate, while Kong discovers a lost society which may give him the home he’s long desired.
Review: This holiday weekend sees the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which marks the fifth film in Warners and Legendary’s Monsterverse saga, which, to be sure, has been very hit-and-miss. As far as conspiracy theories go, very few have had as much of a life as the notion that NASA faked the Apollo moon landing. In some ways, one can understand why people felt this way, as it was one of the most critical events in human history, and the only witness was a TV camera. Back then, people distrusted anything they couldn’t see with their own eyes. In the seventies, conspiracy theories started to get famous, especially as far as the government went, with this the era of Watergate. People no longer trusted authority, and into this fraught environment came Capricorn One, a sci-fi-tinged conspiracy thriller that was one of the most popular films of 1977 but has since been largely forgotten – save for a small cult of devoted fans.

Hank Bradford, head writer for “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers,” died Jan. 18 in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure, his family said. He was 88.
Bradford served as Carson’s head writer from 1970-75.

Bradford later served as head writer for “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers” between 1986 and 1987. He also wrote episodes for “Mash” and “Three’s Company.”

A beautiful, if flawed, counterculture epic, Arthur Penn’s 1970 film has the sweep of a Dickens novel and the sardonic humor of an Altman movie (Mash was released that same year). Dustin Hoffman is Jack Crabb—a white man raised by the Cheyenne and nearly killed by Custer. Hoffman’s Everyman performance is superb but the movie’s heart and soul belongs to Chief Dan George, a down-to-earth mystic and natural born comedian.

Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?
In October 1947, 10 Hollywood screenwriters, directors and producers refused to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee (Huac), at the highly publicized, three-ring circus hearings in Washington, D.C. They wouldn’t acknowledge if they were Communists, nor would they name names of people whom they knew or thought were Commies citing their first amendment rights.
The group, who became known as the Hollywood Ten, were voted in contempt of Congress in November and sentenced to prison for six months to a year. They were blacklisted by the Hollywood studios. Some wrote under pseudonyms or used fronts (check out the 1976 film “The Front”) while others never worked again in Hollywood even after the blacklist ended in 1960.

Every year, Strictly Come Dancing brings its yearly spook-fest back to the dance floor.
By now, we’ve seen hundreds of dancers take part in the themed competition week, hoping to impress the judges with routines that are less trick, more treat.
For fans, Halloween is one of the biggest nights in the Strictly calendar. Design-wise, it doesn’t get more extra than this, with the perfect performance featuring a spooky costume and song choice that are well linked together. When one delves into the mythology of Stephen King's epically long 1986 novel "It," you might find a massively complicated Theogony of deities that link into numerous ancient creation myths. According to King's novel, the titular creature, most commonly known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, was originally born of the enormous, ineffable void that surrounds the outer edges of the known cosmos. The novel refers to this void at the Macroverse, although in King's "Dark Tower" novels, the same void is called the Todash Darkness. A rogue meteor somehow picked up the creature and it traveled to planet Earth while it was still forming and humans hadn't evolved yet. For millions of years, It slumbered, eventually emerging in Ad 1715 to begin feeding on the local citizens. It's implied that It is billions of years old, and It can be a clown or a spider or whatever you're most afraid of.
