- Some of the scenes that were altered in the US "PG" version:
- The arterial spurting from the neck of a patient in the operating room was removed.
- When O'Houlihan is surprised in the shower, the tent flap begins to rise but the scene cuts away before seeing her.
- The "F-word" was removed from the football game.
- This movie was one of the first releases on early 80's RCA Selectavision CED discs system. The disc contains what is today considered to be the R rated version of the film even though the packaging shows a PG rating. Also, instead of letterboxing or squeezing (as was customary at the time)the title frame is simply shows cropped off at the sides so that the all you could see of the M*A*S*H title was "A*S*"
- The PG version released on VHS in the 1980s/1990s has the same running time (and includes all the deleted scenes) as the R-rated version. The only difference is that the language (esp. the sexual innuendos) has been toned down. The uncut R-rated version released on DVD and Blu-Ray has more coarse language, esp. sexual innuendos.
- Re-released on DVD and VHS unedited and with an MPAA rating of "R" in January 2002.
