Kundera's unspeakable gesture
figueroafernando25 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bravo! The charm of a gesture, Kundera would say in Nesmrtelnost, regarding the woman in the pool; that charm is that of Winnicka on the jetty, stealing the whole narrative! This is an extraordinary psychodramatic symphony by Kawalerowicz, perfectly balanced, ("Gra" could stem from Ingmar Bergman's twisted poiesis and imagery, could also stem, as I said, from Milan Kundera's haunting lucidity), but elevated in more from two sequences -and with what risky fugues-, to the most sublime paroxysm of the Nouvelle vague; a wealthy couple who already have a marriage contract; 12 years, in fact; but the elusive, the impregnable soul, slips from their bodies, from their hearts, and from their days; to his wife, Lucina Winnicka, who, regarding the death of her father, prefers to go to work, preparing for her an individual niche, like that Agnes of Nesmrtelnost "Immortality", do you remember her?, who was visited by the strange guest or angel , and despite having capitulated over and over again in his life, in the end he preferred not to share eternity with Paul; it slips away from the husband, played by Gustaw Holoubeko; the wife, also the wife of Kawalerowicz, looks beautiful and her performance has taken my breath away because of how beautiful she is despite her age and because of that "charm of the gesture" mentioned by Kundera; The young man on the motorcycle, under 20, was very lucky, whom he agreed to spend the night, and just to shut up the unfaithful husband who assumed in his stupidity that she would never get someone like that; While she is surrounded by at least 2 other lovers whom she keeps at bay, the husband (we will find out at the end when the lover appears) has been disloyal for 4 years but when he is with her he dedicates himself to detracting from his personal efforts. For this reason, as it has made her feel terrible to taste her husband's poison, not only to the boy on the motorcycle but also behind the carnations in a voluptuous apotheosis, due to taking bad revenge without being vengeful or trying worse to be libertine like the husband, the wife in "Gra" he will not capitulate again either and, in the denouement, the lover is surprised "I thought he would yell or hit me out of jealousy", she replies, "I don't know if I love him either".
