The egg-breaking plant features in the film as a bit of a joke--or yolk (sorry! couldn't resist that one). In fact, "S Behr and Mathew" was a major business in its day (the company was dissolved about the time the film was made), importing eggs from China for over 40 years and breaking 300,000 eggs per DAY, by hand, mostly for bulk sale to the catering trade. A brief clip of the plant in operation can be seen on YouTube: "Frozen Eggs" (1961).

At 38 mins 44 sec James Mason visits the scene of Jack The Ripper's second victim, which was still the same after all those years. It is now gone.

James Mason is filmed talking on a jetty. In the background is Red Lion Wharf with the sign for "S Behr and Mathew Ltd Egg Breaking Plant." The jetty is opposite the Anchor Public House, Bankside. The jetty is also used in the TV series :Man in a Suitcase:, episode 6, "Man from the Dead." The area was extensively redeveloped in the 1980s, and the wharves demolished. The Anchor Public House remains, and has been used in numerous films including Mission Impossible, 1996.
