This was MGM's last theatrical animated short. MGM's animation focused on television after this title was released.
The film satirizes corporate culture. Every time the bear enters the office of a man higher in the factory's hierarchy, the offices are increasingly more luxurious and contain more secretaries.
This cartoon might have been the inspiration for a famous Fed Ex ad from 1979, which extolled the simple process of ordering a pickup by phone. The ad showed the corporate hierarchy, from a vice president right up to the chairman of the board. "So easy, even (fill in the blank) can do it!"
Frank Tashlin disowned the film and accused Chuck Jones of completely missing the point of the story. Tashlin also wanted his name removed from the credits, but there wasn't enough time to do this before the cartoon had to go into general release.
Frank Tashlin was credited as the film's producer, despite having no involvement in the film's production. Chuck Jones wanted to credit the story's original author.
