A spaghetti Zorro wiith noisy action , horse pursuits and amusing sword-play
ma-cortes19 May 2021
Italian rendition about famous personage and freely based on the Johnston McCulley's novel . Here Zorro results a foppish named Don Rodrigo : Howard Ross who is a secretary of a nasty governor : Arturo Dominici and his tyrannical son , the chief of the local troops . Zorro is the relentless hero of the opressed villagers , while relishing his secret identity in mask , cape and sword . Along the way , Zorro saves the damsel in distress, Isabelle : Diana De Santis , who being captured her father , she is coerced to marry the governor's son : a really villain role by Charles Borromel . Then Don Rodrigo to impede this forced wedding asks Isabelle for marrying her , but she is really in love with the brave Zorro.

So-so Zorrro decently starred by Howard Ross , including adventures , swashbuckling , thrills , emotion , romance , humor , go-riding and lots of fencing . A light and medium-budgeted Zorro recounting the legendary character and partially following the ordinary canon. Mediocre but acceptable Zorro in Spaghetti Western style , but it has nothing to do with the classic character and the Hollywood vintage films starred by Douglas Fairbanks and Tyrone Power . The motion picture was regular but professionally directed by Piero Pierotti . He was an artisan who wrote and directed a lot of adventure movies , Peplum and Historical films , such as : The Black Archer ,Marco Polo , Fury of the Vikings , Rome versus Rome , Pedro El Cruel, Hecules against Corsaire Noir , Hercules versus Rome, Robin Hood , Maciste in Hell , Hercules and the Masked Rider .

This is one of many European renditions , mostly Italian/Spanish co-productions based on the intimate character , these are the following ones : "Shadow of Zorro" by Joaquin Romero Marchent with Frank Latimore , Robert Hundar , Fernando Sancho , Maria Luz Galicia , and its sequel titled "Revenge of Zorro" by Joaquin Marchent and similar actors . "Three Swords of Zorro" by Ricardo Blasco with Guy Stockwell , Mikaela and its sequel titled "Oath of Zorro" by Blasco with Tony Russel Maria José Alfonso , Agustín González. Director Jose Luis Merino directed three Zorros starred by Charles Quiney tiled : "Zorro rider of Justice" , "Zorro of Monterrey" and "Last Adventure of Zorro" . "Zorro versus Maciste" with Pierre Brice , Moira Orfei and Alan Steel or Sergio Ciani . "Zorro versus Three Musketeers" with Pierre Brice , Livio Lorenzon , Giacomo Rossi Stuart . "Zorro the Navarra Marquis" by Franco Montemurro with Nadir Moretti , Daniele Vargas , Malisa Longo . "Zorro in the Court of Spain" by Franco Montemurro with Spyros Focas, Franco Ressel. " Il Figlio Di Zorro" by Gianfranco Baldanello with Ottaviano Dell'Acqua or Robert Widmark , Fernando Sancho , William Berger . "Zorro" by Duccio Tessari with Alain Delon , Ottavia Piccolo , Moustache , Stanley Baker , among others.

Zorro on Italian way let it see easily for those less picky movie-buff!!

Zorro had a countless variants in so popular hero at Spanish California, although this Italian production put aside the famous Don Diego de la Vega, Seargent Garcia, Corporal Reyes and the mute Bernardo to my dismay, It's a crying shame take out so marvelous characters who brightened up so wonder series and some movies that containing some names above.

The condensed story starts when California was ruled by the greedy governor Don Alvarez (Arturo Dominici) whom make a previous deal with a wealthy farmer Don Miguel (Edoardo Toniolo) over a future marriage between his young daughter Isabel (Dina Di Santis) with the Don Alvarez's son Luis (Charles Borromel) when both will be able to do that, the time goes by and Isabel goes back from Spain after her study there, meanwhile Luis became in awful bad manners man, womanizer and heartless, in the meantime reach there from Spain Don Alvarez's nephew Don Ramiro (Howard Ross) a kind of polished gentleman fending off any kind of violence and avoid of sword-fighting due he disliked such thing whatsoever.

Don Ramiro stays at his uncle's shadows dealing with papers and documents whilst received a task from his uncle, take a look in his rebel son over the young ladies on the province also ensure that Luis doesn't drink too much causing riots whenever he stays together his rogue sidekick Cobra ( Nello Pazzafini), among the sprees over the helpless people appears Zorro often clashing with Luis and Cobra's thugs upholding the weak and oppressed citizens, worst seeing such savageness from his forthcoming Isabel's husband, Don Miguel decides break the deal one-sidedly for good sending his daughter to a nunnery for a while, angering Don Alvarez in a dangerous way.

Well Zorro Il Ribelle I'd first watched in a cheap theater in 1979 in my wanders years, now making a rereading of it on Youtube in Italian language and no subtitles much better that my original VHS copy that I found in a second hand store fifteen years before, not memorable at all, just another western spaghetti version of Zorro, Howard Ross is an average actor instead of the beauty blonde Dina Di Santis often with those well-groomed hair even on the bed, in a nutshell this Zorro version let it see easily if you weren't too much picky.

Thanks for reading.
