Sex & Nudity

  • In some scenes the boys' buttocks can be seen, and perhaps their genitalia from a distance, but it is casual nudity and not sexual in the slightest.
  • There is a moderate amount of nudity in this film. The boys are shown skinny dipping, and running about the island in loin cloths or without trousers at times. It's a non-sexual and non-sensational context.

Violence & Gore

  • Group of boys kill another helpless boy though it is vaguely shown in flashes of images. Rock crushes a boy though the camera cuts just as it's about to hit him. Characters briefly describe the process of killing an animal. Several pigs are killed and torn apart by hungry boys, and the boys joke by spattering blood on one another. The head of a sow is severed and placed on a pike. The actual severing isn't shown, but the image of the sow's head is seen several times.

Profanity

  • Very limited. A handful of mild obscenities.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The theme of primitive brutality in humans- even young children- is disturbing all throughout the film.
  • There is a significant amount of violence and savagery.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Towards the end of the film - just before Ralph makes contact with the sailor in white attire - Ralph is running away from Jack and his tribe, who are all over the smoke filled Jungle making bird noises coming right towards him... it is implied that one of the remaining boys on Ralph's side is killed by Jack's tribe as you hear a scream over the whooping as Ralph is running for the beach. So much is going on in the moment it's hard to tell what could've happened to whom. Very intense scene.
