  Murray Logan : Twenty-five, actually. It was Wuthering Heights in the Aegean. Pretty bad. The trouble was, at the time, I didn't know anything about love or desperation.

• Murray Logan : After a time, one learns not to feel, to retreat. You find a way to go on living.

  Christine Bonner : Is that enough - just to go on living?

• Murray Logan : Don't make a scene just because Lily's asked you to a party.

  Sybil Logan : I'm not making a scene. It's just that I can do very well without her arty, smarty parties, thank you. I've done without them for the past 12 years. Who does she think she is? And that dreary husband of hers...

• Murray Logan : I met Sybil when I first got back from Greece. I'd come back because my book was being published and I didn't expect to stay longer than a few weeks. My affair with Sybil began casually and then, before I knew it, I was caught up in a violent, hungry way. We were married when she was three months pregnant.

• Sybil Logan : Tell me, did you notice that look the man on the plane gave me? I don't mean your dreary Arab friend. It wasn't my face he was looking at.

  Murray Logan : In this part of the world, that kind of look is considered a compliment.

  Sybil Logan : Well, I don't like it.

• Sybil Logan : I must say, it's all very peculiar. In more ways than one.

  Murray Logan : What the hell are you talking about.

  Sybil Logan : It's all right if she's in love with you; but, you'd be an idiot to fall in love with her.

• Sybil Logan : There you are! I've been looking all over the place for you.

  Murray Logan : We lost you for a moment.

  Sybil Logan : It's absolutely dreadful! They just stand there, gazing at you and picking their teeth.

  Murray Logan : Come on.

  Sybil Logan : Leaving me alone with a bunch of manic depressives.

• Sybil Logan : Murray, I'm not very hungry.

  Murray Logan : Sybil, we arranged this...

  Christine Bonner : Sybil, please - it's nice by the water.

  Sybil Logan : I'm going back to the hotel. I'm not romantic - like you and Christine. I'm sick of smells and art and crowds. Any objections?

• Murray Logan : How long do you think we can go on like this? Is it possible? Feeling about you, the way I do. I've said it.

  Christine Bonner : We both said it - from the beginning.

  Murray Logan : A little of both. It is the most beautiful - if you chose to see it that way.
