Sex & Nudity

  • The film opens at the obvious aftermath of sexual intercourse. Both the man and woman are in bed with bedsheets covering their nudity. It is heavily implied that the man was not able to perform well sexually, and he references this at a later point in the film.
  • Most of the male characters are depicted as sexually prolific and have slept with one or more of the female characters at some point (no sex is shown and this is only known through conversation).

Violence & Gore

Profanity

  • I do not speak French, so I cannot attest to any audible profanity. The English subtitles use the word "bastard" once (as a derogatory term).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A minor (one scene) adult character who is a truck driver orders and is given a glass of wine. Then is seen driving his truck in the next scene.
  • Characters smoke casually and a character discusses cigarettes with a shopkeeper.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The main character sees himself as a failure and resolves to commit suicide. At the last scene of the film, he opens his shirt and puts a pistol to his chest. We see a shot of his face as he pulls the trigger (from offscreen), but their is no real change in expression. The film then freezes the image of his face and superimposes his suicide letter over it, while a vioce-over reads it aloud (although there is nothing graphic in the note, it has a somber tone).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main character is a recovering alcoholic and he and several other characters make references to his past escapades while drunk. During the course of the film, he relapses and becomes ill from drinking after detoxing. At the end of the film he has returned to alcoholism .

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The main character commits suicide at the end of the film, something which he had resolved to do earlier on . Because of his recovery treatment, the main character becomes visibly intoxicated when he relapses, even with only one drink .
