Silly Send Up Of Swords & Sandal Flicks

Pharaoh's wife Nadia Sanders has ensorceled Maciste -- played Samson Burke so he will conquer Thebes with the Assyrian army and set her on the throne. The Pharaoh needs a strong man, so he settles on Toto, whose phony strongman act as the Son of Ammon has been playing the Theban night clubs with his equally idiotic manager Nino Taranto. Gags that play off the Maciste movies mix well with Toto's comic imbecility.

Actually, Toto reminds me of Bob Hope in this go-around, fast talking, cowardly, and thoroughly out of his depth. There are some good set designs to go with the general Egyptian theme, and the battle scenes are cut in from some Sword-and-Sandal movie and matched pretty well in the new footage. Toto and Taranto do a great double act.

Boring!

Fernando Cerchio, the director, made a few films with Toto. This one is not good, actually is very bad. Bad acting, specially Samson Burke, the big guy in the role of Maciste. Nino Taranto is very annoying like in all the films I've seen him. Only if you know and love Toto.
