Moonshining Stooges
SendiTolver10 August 2018
'Samogonshchiki' or 'Bootleggers' (sometimes also known as 'Moonshiners') is tasty slapstick short film about three inept crooks producing moonshine in their forest hut. Trio - Yuri Nikulin, Georgi Vitsin, Yevgeni Morgunov - were first introduced in Leonid Gaidai's segment for comedy 'Absolutely Seriously'. The segment got released separately as a short film. 'Bootleggers' is a followup to that (although on imdb, these short films are put together and presented as two different tales of same trio, when actually they stand two different 18 minutes and 10 minutes films). The comedy is pure classic slapstick, but the energy and intelligence the three comedians perform all stunts gives nice fresh layer to the genre that itself was quite worn out by the sixties. As the film doesn't have any dialogue (only one song) the language barrier can't become obstacle for understanding the movie.

Not the most original comedies out there, but it is proof that talented comedians can turn not matter how simple material into pure gold. Delightful little movie.

Lovely short from the Soviet Union

Lovely short film from the Soviet Union, complete with the obligatory for the time, positive political message that for once does not spoil the film. The bonus is that you do not need to understand Russian to have a good laugh, as it should be with good comedy. If you are of a more closed mind you would just say that this is just a rip-off of the Three Stooges, and in a way you would be correct but for the wrong reasons! The Three Stooges were great and so are these three fellows although the undoubted star is the dog.

I do not know if there still exists a good print of this, I have never seen one, even on DVD but would recommend anyone to watch this no matter what languages you do or do not speak.

So these characters based of Three stooges i really mention for my brain don't worry the imaginary genre was beginning The story about a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster, all past their prime years in life and usefulness on their respective farms, who are soon to be discarded or mistreated by their masters. One by one they leave their homes and set out together. They decide to go to Bremen, known for its freedom, to live without owners and become musicians and slightly concept of three stooges of Larry Fine, Curly Howard, and Moe Howard and some names are coward, dunce and Experienced and so.

The Three Sowjets

Warning: Spoilers
This is a half-hour short film from the Soviet union. If I got it right, it consists apparently of two parts, the first roughly 20 minutes, the second 10 minutes. We follow 3 Russians and how they are mastering several challenges. This is a slapstick comedy that has a similar tone to the Stooges or Laurel/Hardy short films. Of course, these were a lot earlier, so director Gayday was a bit late to the table here. he made this film pretty early in their career. It's certainly fairly unique as I have not read about a similar or equally well-known short film from Russia that has a similar premise. Anyway, the three also have a pretty cute dog with them, which makes this one also interesting to younger audiences. Nice spoof of the MGM Lion early on by the way. Sadly, I cannot say I found this particularly funny. The dog was great and the landscapes were nice to watch, but the characters were fairly uninteresting. If you want to watch this and do not speak Russian, don't worry. There is no dialogue in here really, only one scene where the trio sings a Russian song. However, I do not recommend the watch.
