"Ach Egon!" is a German black-and-white movie from 1961, so this one has its 55th anniversary this year. The star in here and also the title character is legendary German comedian Heinz Erhardt. And I must say that his screen time in here is also what is most memorable about this film, or maybe I could even say the only memorable moments. Apart from that, there is the usual from German films around that era, such as complicated romance plots, disgruntled parents and just generally a lot of chaos that keeps this film from having a realistic and relatable plot. The director is Wolfgang Schleif, who is otherwise mostly known for the Immenhof films. By the 1960s, there were already many color films, also in Germany that are called "Heimatfilme" today most of the time, but this one here still has black-and-white. The only other cast member besides Erhardt that I have heard of is Adrian Hoven here, but I am sure many of the actors were a lot more famous back then as I checked some of their bodies of work and they were pretty prolific and successful. As for Albers, not even his comedy was always working, but that was mostly due to the script and not to him giving a bad performance. The scenes in drag are about as unfunny and try-hard as they were in Krüger/Gottschalk films later on. And sadly, it feels as if Albers is in there just for comedic purposes and has little to do with the story or other characters and the big absurd plot twist at the end cannot change this either. These 95 minutes were not a good watch. Thumbs down.
