The scandal surrounding Charles Van Doren, who was given answers and won several weeks in a row, was the basis for Quiz Show (1994).
When the questions became so difficult that many games ended in 0-0 ties, ratings plummeted. Producers then decided to give certain contestants the answers beforehand, to boost audience appeal.
Quiz show in which two contestants, isolated in studios from each other, answer questions with points awarded for answers, with progress of game similar to card game of the same name. At the end of the game, the person
leading receives $500 per point for the difference between the two scores. The winner may continue to meet new challengers to increase his winnings. The program replaced the Ina Ray Hutton Show (last show Sept 5) in this time spot.
Van Doren's winning streak stretched to 14 consecutive weeks.
