In 1968, Christina Crawford had to be hospitalized for several weeks to treat an ovarian tumor. Her 63-year-old mother, Joan Crawford, took over the role of 28-year-old Joan Borman Kane. In her book "Mommie Dearest," Christina said that when she watched her mother's scenes, it was obvious to her that Joan had been drinking during the taping. Joan's appearance was a ratings bonanza for the show, but Christina was upset about her mother replacing her. Joan Borman Kane was written out of the series soon after.
5,195 episodes were broadcast.
Gloria Monty, who would go on to huge daytime fame as the Executive Producer of "General Hospital" during the Luke & Laura years, was a longtime director for "The Secret Storm".
