    Decent Second Feature

Donald Woods is a passenger aboard an American ship captured by the Barbary pirates. He is roundly disliked because he is a Tory, someone who thinks we should never have won the American Revolution. He quickly wins the trust of Stefan Schnabel, the Bey of Tripoli, and the hatred of Trudy Marshall, one of the American prisoners. What neither of them know is he is actually an officer of the United States Army, sent to winkle out who is betraying American shipping routes to the pirates.

It shows all the hallmarks of a Columbia B picture, with the complex shots lifted from older movies, a worn story, people fencing with scimitars, and Schnabel and John Dehner sounding like they took elocution lessons from Akim Tamiroff. Director Lew Landers does try some interesting camera angles, largely to cover up stunt doubling, and there are plenty of extras to fill in the scenes.

    • Trivia
Lenore Aubert was loaned out by Universal-International Studios to Columbia Studios to do " The Barbary Pirate " in order to fulfill her Universal Studios contract, to where she was under a 7 year contract which started in 1948, because her then husband, sweater king and actor, Julius Altman wanted to return to Europe so Universal Studios didn't settle on a movie project for her and thus loaned her out for this picture. Against their ( Universal Studios) better judgement, altered her picture contract to a three picture deal from the original 7 year contract Universal originally signed her to.
