Definitely Worth A Watch But It Gets Kind of Pedestrian
Handlinghandel4 December 2003
This movie starts out in a stylish, sophisticated manner. It never turns into junk, but it is a clear precursor to television sitcoms. And look at who directed it!

The stepsisters have an appealingly warm relationship and both are charming. But their characters' names are similar and they don't look a whole lot different, apart from a bit of a difference in height. Having had a blonde and a brunette would have made the plot a little more clear.

Edward Arnold is always a pleasure, always. Jerome Cowan, a dashing private eye only four years earlier in "Crime By Night," is Robert Hutton's father here, and in a minor role at that. I wonder what his story was.

light comedy
SnoopyStyle5 December 2020
Step-sisters Jackie Linnett and Joy Linnett come home. Joy is the confident one who is able to wrap men around her little finger. Jackie is the wallflower. Old friend Warren James comes by and invites Jackie to the country club. That's when Joy comes down in her swimsuit and Warren is struck dumb. Quickly, Joy becomes the object of desire and Jackie is forgotten.

Modern comedies would have a homelier Jackie to start the movie. She should at least be wearing glasses. In this, the girls are almost twins except for their clothes. She needs a bigger makeover so she needs to start out as ugly.

mixups... was the film code still in effect or not?
ksf-216 February 2021
Joyce Reynolds and Janis Paige are sisters, Jackie and Joy. Warren and Jackie go swimming, and fall in love. but things get all mixed up when Jackie brings him home to meet the family. Eddie Arnold is Dad, who likes to tip a few. the usual misunderstandings. and does ANYONE remember exactly what happened when they went swimming at midnight? such antics. are they married or not? we were almost done with the film code by this time, but the plot only works if we pretend the film code is still in effect. light and fluffy. post wartime plot, when everyone was settling down and getting married. directed by Fred DeCordova. had only been directing a couple years when he made this. and as Johnny Carson always pointed out, made a couple Bedtime for Bonzo films with the chimp, then on to television. and the Tonight show, with johnny carson.

Nope!

Reynolds and Paige are both attractive here, so the plot and behavior of characters makes no sense at all.

Terrible attempt at comedy, with trite dialogue and mediocre performances.

Could someone please explain the appeal of Janis Page to me? Beside the obvious desire to throw her down and...converse with her?
