The name of Yosemite Sam's pirate ship is "La Marie Douce" (The Sweet Mary).

Sam, digging a hole in the sand to bury his treasure chest and singing "Dead Man's Chest", instead of the word "rum" breaks to the words "Ma's Old Fashioned Cider" to a conga beat. This is a parody of an advertising jingle for Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer.

Bugs's "Captain Bligh" is a nod to Charles Laughton's portrayal in Motín a bordo (1935).

Bugs ends the cartoon by breaking the fourth wall and nodding to Captain John Paul Jones' line, "I have not yet begun to fight!"

Sam is shown playing with two popular children's games, a yo-yo and jacks. Both are still around in 2021, but not as commonly as in 1948.
