2 cats outsmarted by 1 mouse...
TheLittleSongbird27 May 2010
I have made no secret of loving Tom and Jerry, and while Trap Happy isn't a favourite it is very worthwhile. Yes even with the predictable story line. What does make the cartoon enjoyable are several things. There are the typical chases that make the Tom and Jerry cartoons so enjoyable, such as the ending when Butch turns on Tom. There is the cartoony yet fun violence that makes these cartoons further enjoyable. Then there is the simple but bright, lively and colourful animation, and fun, bombastic orchestral music to add substance to the cartoon. And of course the characters, Jerry is cocky especially at the beginning but he is likable still, and Tom and Butch are great as they try to catch him but to no avail. Overall, this was very enjoyable and re-watchable. 8/10 Bethany Cox

The Rise & Fall Of 'The Exterminator'
ccthemovieman-115 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
It's pretty sad when a cat has to look up in the yellow pages to find someone who is a "mouse exterminator." Obviously, our boy Tom has lost confidence in his ability to eliminate Jerry. (If you've watched enough of these cartoons, you can see why!).

Jerry is cocky, too....at least early on in this story.

The story revolves are Tom and "The Exterminator," the hired hand from the Yellow Pages. He is a familiar black cat in this series, and both he and Tom are shown doing what can to catch Jerry. Suffice to say - no surprise here - they never succeed. In the process, both they and the house take a severe beating, and things return to normal by the end.

Overall, average gags which means it's entertaining all the way nothing much you haven't seen if you've watch a lot of T&J cartoons.

Violent... even by the standards of Tom and Jerry!
Tweekums12 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As with so many other 'Tom and Jerry' shorts this opens with the two tearing around the house as Tom tries to catch Jerry; after several failed attempts Tom eventually gives up and calls in the professionals: The 'Ajax Mouse Exterminators'. Within seconds there is a knock on the door; it turns out that the exterminator is alley cat Butch. He soon gets to work and catches Jerry; he doesn't keep him for long though and soon he and Thomas are employing a variety of measures to catch Jerry but only ending up hurting each other. As they continue it is amazing that the house doesn't fall down given how much damage they cause... and they still don't catch Jerry!

Tom and Jerry cartoons are almost always violent but this one seems even more so than usual; that isn't bad as it is so over the top it is funny; we see the cats battered, electrocuted, blown up and at one point Tom pulls Butch through as wall as they try to catch Jerry by reaching though mouse holes on opposite sides but end up tugging each other. Having Butch in adds to the fun as he and Tom working together only leads to doubling their suffering! The house setting is fairly cliché but to be fair complaining about finding Tom and Jerry in a house is like complaining about the Roadrunner being in a desert!

"Butch, the Number One Exterminator"
Kalashnikovin3 September 2022
During my childhood I spent hours watching TV, I watched anything that came my way, it didn't matter if it was good or bad, all I wanted was fun, Tom and Jerry was one of my favorites, I always laughed when it was broadcast On television, I remember quite a few shorts like Sufferin Cats, Advance and be Mechanized, The Midnight Snack and among others, Trap Happy was always one of the ones I liked the most, a simple Formula applied in a good way.

Tom after being Tormented by Jerry and having failed in his attempt to catch him decides to call an Exterminator after finding a phone number in a Book, Butch now as a pest exterminator will try in vain to help Catch Jerry.

The Plot is quite simple but the Execution was Impressively Good, Tom and Butch with a couple of tools manage to catch Jerry but obviously fail in the attempt, As happened in other shorts like The Midnight Snack, the simple Plots do you handle well give incredible results, and here is the case!.

The Animation was Incredible, the Main Stage is the House which is in the Country, the Backgrounds look impressive as well as the Movements and the Designs of the Characters, the Animation at the same time is synchronized in a good way with the Music and it is a complete pleasure to watch this short.

The Music is Excellent, it has a lot of rhythm and it is lively, the Incredible presentation of Butch with a Remade Version of the Intro of The Three Stooges was great, some scenes also would not be fun without the Music!.

Trap Happy, despite its simple plot, is a fun and funny Cartoon that shows us the funniest side of the Duo, Butch also draws attention and is given the necessary Prominence, the End is Funny and you could easily watch this short without bothering.

Trap Happy itself belongs to my Best Tom and Jerry Cartoons List, I love the Charm of It as well as the Animation and Music, the Characters are hilarious as always and you will get quite a few smiles while watching this.

For everything I said above, Trap Happy gets a 10.

Not falling for it.
CuriosityKilledShawn15 January 2007
T&J are chasing right from the beginning in this one and Tom is having his usual no luck on catching him. This time he decides to call an exterminator company, hoping that they might have some more elaborate traps handy that Tom could never dream of.

They send a cat to catch the mouse (naturally) but, like Tom before him, Jerry his just not falling for his game of death and turns the tables on them. It's absolutely nothing fancy but the visual humor and imagination make it funny. You can tell how it's going to end but you never really expect Jerry to end up dead do you?

There is also dialogue in this cartoon but no one is credited for it.

Another unexceptional T&J cartoon.
BA_Harrison14 June 2008
Tom, frustrated by his inability to catch Jerry, calls an exterminator to rid him of the elusive rodent. When he arrives, the professional mouse hunter turns out to be none other than alley cat Butch, who proves to be just as useless at trapping Jerry as Tom. And twice as destructive!

Six years after their first adventure (Puss gets The Boot), and Tom and Jerry seem to be in something of a rut: their last few adventures were strictly run-of-the-mill offerings that delivered the expected violence, but little in the way of anything new, and Trap Happy proves to be more of the same. Whilst there's plenty of smashing, thumping and walloping to be enjoyed, this particular fan of the destructive cat and mouse found himself wanting something a little different to break the monotony.

Trap Happy gets a rating of 6/10 from me—not bad, but nothing special.

Crammed full as it is with truck loads of gratuitous . . .
pixrox125 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . violence, TRAP HAPPY could well be used as a Rorschach Test to separate out the insurrectionist types lurking among we normal people from those souls who are NOT a threat to our Core Value Democratic Principles and therefore will not require eventual liquidation. In A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, the protagonist is affixed to a viewing chair at one point with his eyelids forcibly relegated to the "open" position and shown a film montage to determine his future. TRAP HAPPY is suitable for similar use, with individuals evincing reactions similar to many of those commenting here duly delegated for mental reconditioning or bodily recycling. Otherwise, the TRAP HAPPY mob will run roughshod over the rest of us, ripping away all our rights and Human Dignity.
