"Heartbeat" was the first collaboration of Ginger Rogers and director Sam Wood since RKO's Kitty Foyle (1940), for which Rogers earned her only Academy Award.
Even though websites like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes list Arlette's last name as Lafron, it is actually Lafon. Within the movie itself, a newspaper excerpt reads (in part) "The announcement of the coming marriage of Miss Arlette Lafon..." Additionally, no actors within the movie pronounce an "r". Lafon (or LaFon) is a reasonably known last name of French derivation; Lafron is not.
Although not mentioned in reviews or news items, the original screenplay on which this picture was based was first filmed in Italy as Batticuore (1939). Mario Camerini directed; Assia Noris and John Lodge starred.
