Sex & Nudity

  • One scene where Charlotte implies that she "lost her inhibitions" with a man. Very oblique

Violence & Gore

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • There's A LOT of smoking in this film, even for the time period, even for a Bette Davis film. Paul Henreid does that famous cigarette thing where he lights two and passes one to Bette Davis, then they blow smoke in one another's faces.
  • Reference to alcohol helping a young woman lose her sexual inhibitions.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Car accident (not at all graphic)
  • Charlotte's mother is very domineering, and her conversations with Charlotte make the suggesting that if Charlotte doesn't "conform" to her mothers wishes, she will be disinherited.
