  • The main character (Gabin) is prone to hereditary seizures caused by his father's drinking. They cause him to become violent to the point where he is liable to kill. He knows it and regrets it, so despite his gruesome behavior (and the title of the film, "The Human Beast"), we feel pity and a certain amount of sympathy at the end for him.
