- Young firefighter Larry Parker's daring exploits have garner him much newspaper publicity which has promptly gone to his head. His fire-department colleagues and his sweetheart Mary O'Connor start to shun him, thinking that he is just a publicity hound. But his daring rescue of Mary and her younger brother Mickey from a blazing inferno shows that he is a true hero to all.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
- Larry Parker (Norman Foster), a taxi driver, is the boyfriend of Mary O'Connor (Joyce Compton), whose father, Tim (Robert Homans), is the captain of the fire department's "Suicide Squad,", a special firefighting team sent on dangerous assignments during fires. Larry's rival for Mary's affections is Ed Drake (Jack Luden), a member of the squad. After Larry joins the squad, Ed arranges things by having Larry clean out the firehouse so that Larry often misses dates with Mary.
One day, Larry is left behind with the fire truck during a fire when he witnesses a bank robbery and pursues the criminals with the truck and finally captures them. Although his friend Snap's (Phil Kramer) news photographs make Larry a public hero, he is berated within the department for abandoning his post. Mary is also displeased with his hasty actions, as she prefers a steady man like her father.
Another day later, Larry once again again abandons his assignment to save people endangered by a hot wire. Snap takes a few more photos of Larry during the daring rescue as well as leading the rest of the firemen out of the burning building. But as a result, Larry is demoted, and Mickey (Peter Warren), Mary's young brother, calls him a "grandstanding four-flusher."
Ostracized by his fellow firemen, Larry finally quits when he yet again acts on his own to rescue Ed and his team from a burning building when their guide line snaps and he is forced to go inside the burning building to rescue Ed and the rest of the firemen.
Larry returns to driving a taxi but sees an explosion on the ship that Mary and Mickey have just boarded. Rather than follow Tim's slow rescue methods, Larry takes a risk, cuts through the hull with an acetylene torch and saves the passengers. Ed then tells Mary how Larry rescued him, and Tim gives Larry his fireman's hat and blesses his marriage to Mary.
