It starts with a cry of pain. Then a look of terror or ecstasy. And then the body starts to change. Hair grows from the knuckles. Maybe the eyes turn black. Sometimes fangs sprout. Before you know it, the person in front of you isn’t a person anymore. The Transformation can be the most horrific moment in a horror film because it’s where the internal becomes the external. No more false faces. No more hiding. And depending how fearsome the new being is, no more running as well.

If you haven’t watched the trailer to Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut called Lost River, correct that now. While early buzz has been mixed, I’m excited to see the film. I think it is also cool that Johnny Jewel scored the film, considering he was going to be the original composer for Refn’s Drive (See Symmetry: Themes for an Imaginary Film where some of Jewel’s ideas and possibly leftout compositions lay). Lost River looks dreamy, hypnotic and a nightmare of Americana.

If there was ever a time that for a lavish, big screen adaptation of James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's beloved, fairy tale-based musical "Into the Woods," then it'd probably be now. Between the wild success of "Frozen" and "Maleficent" and the continued interest in things like "Once Upon a Time" and the Vertigo comic book series "Fables," this seems like the perfect opportunity to have the stage show spring to life in a really big way. And based on the trailer, it's done just that.
After a brief montage of several characters saying "I wish" (ending on Anna Kendrick's Cinderella saying it), we get brief glimpses of the very starry cast, including Meryl Streep as The Witch, Emily Blunt (we love her) as the Baker's Wife, Chris Pine as Cinderella's Prince, and Johnny Depp's as The Big Bad Wolf. Okay, we don't really see Johnny Depp.

In the wake of the poor critical reception and box office performance for Transcendence you better believe all eyes will be on Johnny Depp's next vehicle Mortdecai, which again features Depp in a role unlike those that have made him so popular in the mainstream, though the fact this is a comedy may work in his favor. amz asin="0141003774" size="small"David Koepp, who previously directed Depp in 2004's Secret Window, directs and co-wrote the screenplay (based on Kyril Bonfiglioli's three-novel anthology) with Eric Aronson and Peter Baynham (Bruno, Arthur) and Depp is surrounded with an impressive cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Goldblum. As we stepped briskly towards the Anaheim Convention Center, my mouth dropped open as I caught sight of the 45,000 fans ready for a weekend filled of all things Disney. This was my first time at this mock "comic-con" event for all things Disney, the D23 Expo!!! The crowds were huge!
We first went into the D23 Arena for a presentation called "Let the Adventures Begin: Live Action at the Walt Disney Studios." Chairman Alan Horn showcased the upcoming films of Disney, Marvel, and LucasFilm, giving audiences a first look at the Studios' exciting live-action slate. Sadly, we weren't given any information at all about the next installment for Star Wars, and audiences were audibly disappointed.
Marvel Studios took the stage first, debuting footage of a gripping battle scene from Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013) and another humorous scene where Natalie Portman's character, Jane Foster, is diagnosed with a mysterious energy in Asgard.

Right now Warner Bros. is waiting to see how their new take on Superman with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel plays out in just over a week, but another DC Comic that was once being developed at the studio is gaining new life. Heat Vision has word that Heyday Films, the banner from Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman is developing an adaptation of the comic book series Fables with A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel set to direct. Bill Willingham's comic heads into fairytale territory and follows staple characters like Cinderella and The Big Bad Wolf as they are forced to feel their home and hide in a secret pocket of NYC. Here's the official synopsis of the comic book series: When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile.

There’s been a lot of rumours flying about this week concerning Rob Marshall’s next musical, Into The Woods. Earlier this week it was revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine were in talks to join. You can add Emily Blunt and Christine Baranski to the list of actors currently in the running to go Into The Woods.
Based on the Broadway musical, Into The Woods mashes up fairy tale icons, black comedy and a sha-heet ton of singing. Well, it is a musical. The story revolves around a baker and his wife who embark on a journey into the woods to lift a curse an evil witch cast upon their family. Nothing in these sorts of tales ever goes smoothly, so along the way they’ll encounter fairy tale faves Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and The Big Bad Wolf.

Telltale Games seems to have a knack for choosing just the right property at just the right time to develop into an ongoing series, and The Wolf Among Us seems determined to prove that theory. Hot on the heels of The Walking Dead‘s success comes this prequel tale to the critically acclaimed Fables comic book line from Vertigo, yet despite the sales pitch being reminiscent of Telltale’s previous works there’s signs that changes are a-coming.
Set prior to the events of Fables, The Wolf Among Us puts the player in the shoes of Bigby Wolf, formerly “The Big Bad Wolf” and currently the hotheaded sheriff of Fabletown, the community around which the entire franchise revolves. Citizens of this town are the titular “Fables” and range from a cigarette-smoking pig, to a womanizing Prince Charming and a crafty espionage-inclined Cinderella.

A new batch of screens shows off "The Wolf Among Us" protagonist Bigby Wolf (or The Big Bad Wolf to you and me) hitting the pavement and (and Fabletown residents) as he looks for clues in a mystery set before the first issue of the series.
From the official synopsis:
Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the Fables comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf. Now the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales,...

"The Walking Dead" developer heads back to comics, this time adapting Bill Willingham's long-running "Fables" with a prequel detective tale featuring that book's surly wolf, Bigby.
Set before the events of the first issue of "Fables," "The Wolf Among Us" centers on the fairy tale community living in secret in the middle of Manhattan and Bigby Wolf, the sheriff who keeps order. Formerly the Big Bad Wolf, Bigby evolved over the years in Willingham's comics as one of the most multi-facted, a detective, a fighter, and a loving father in a war against the despotically ruled fairy tale kingdoms.
The first arc of the Vertigo/DC Comic series was a murder mystery Bigby in the lead, and it would be odd to not see Telltale put the Fabletown sheriff in the detective role again for this Xbla, Psn, Mac, and PC release. I kind of wish it was set...

Spring Break may be over, but Once Upon a Time is all new! Last week, Red Riding Hood conquered her inner demon, literally. The Big Bad Wolf is alive and well inside Ruby. While this serves as a great breakthrough, Kathryn is still missing. Plus, Mary Margaret remains public enemy numero uno.
Tonight, Storybrooke is turning darker and darker. Locking Mary Margaret behind bars is better understood once we learn Snow White's reason for attempting murder.

The Once Upon a Time Round Table team is not afraid of The Big Bad Wolf.
In this edition of the weekly feature, panelists Jim Garner, Christine Orlando and Nick McHatton tackle "Red-Handed," going over various aspects of the latest episode and wondering where the CSI lab is in Storybrooke. Won't you join in?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Does the heart box Ruby found belong to Kathryn?
Christine: I don't think so. I'm going with Kathryn still being alive. I don't know where or how yet, though. And of course that still leaves the question: whose heart is it?
Jim: I honestly don't think so. First, if it looks like a normal human heart, then it's not Regina's version... those are glowing and pulsate. Second, I agree with Christine, I think Kathryn is still alive. Maybe she's in the hospital Belle is in.
Nick: That would seem like a poor way to get rid...
Could The Big Bad Wolf actually be on the prowl?
That is Castle's excited theory on tomorrow night's "Once Upon a Crime," as this ABC hit makes like another ABC hit and enters the realm of fairy tale lore when a corpse turns up dressed like Little Red Riding Hood.
What is the meaning behind these stories? How did the killer attack his prey? What secret of his mother's makes Castle turn to a full bottle of scotch? All these questions and more are answered in the following sneak peeks. Enjoy!
The Hoodwinked franchise hasn't really managed to take off like a lot of other animated ventures, and that's something of a shame really, because both films deliver for the target audience. We've gotten to a point in the theatrical release world where, because there have been so many releases that work wonderfully for both children and adults, that all films have to in order to be given a fair share of credit. I think it's gone wrong there really.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, let's face it, isn't especially entertaining for adults. It plays the game to a certain degree, with a few lines that aren't really going to make sense to the youngest audiences, but it's actually geared fully toward younger humor and/or sensibilities, with the main laughs by way of crashing or falling, and the story spelled out rather simplistically.
Why that should necessarily be counted as a negative is somewhat confusing,...
Sometimes hitting the multiplex just isn’t in the cards. That’s when cable, the web and streaming step in to provide an instant movie fix. But how to separate the wheat from the chaff? I’m happy to help; every week I’ll pick a flick and see if it’s worth your time. This week? “Red Riding Hood”
The Story: Valerie lives in a village that, well, looks like M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. Lots of timber, dirt and snow. Any wonder she wants to run away with her love Peter? The fact that her mom just made a marriage contract for Valerie to marry Henry isn’t making it tempting to stay, either. Just when Valerie and Peter decide to blow this popsicle stand, there’s a murder in the village. Seems that there were killings years ago, done by a rather vicious wolf. Killings that...
I reported earlier about the Al Capone gangster biopic he wants to get off the ground with Tom Hardy at the studio, but Vulture also say director David Yates is traveling from London into Hollywood today to discuss another huge movie with Warner Bros just hours after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was released in cinema’s.
On the plane he will be re-reading Stephen King’s epic-lengthed 1,100 word supernatural tome The Stand (he won’t read it in one journey that’s for sure!) which we heard earlier this year Warner Bros and CBS want to turn into a multi-picture adaptation, much like Universal’s ambitious plans (though now seemingly in trouble) for King’s The Dark Tower.
WB look like they want to beat the now floundering Universal out of the gate on the other much-loved King epic.
Talks will happen today between Yates and WB,...
As a film lover, one of the comments I’ve heard over the years that irks me every time is ” Well. it’s intended for kids”. This seems to be a blanket excuse for any sloppily made animated features aimed at the moppet set. I believe that now , thanks to the cinema gems from Pixar, Dreamworks, and Blue Sky, that hackneyed phrase can finally be put to rest. Certainly Up, Rio, and How To Train Your Dragon have themes that interest youngsters, but they’re well executed stories that all ages can appreciate. The makers of Hoowinked Too! Hood Vs. Evil seem to believe that by pairing up star voices with fairy tale satire that they can score a bullseye with that all ages audience. The end result not only misses that bullseye, it comes nowhere near the target.
What truly occurred as compared to what one thinks happened doesn’t always match up. In last night’s episode of Being Human viewers learned plenty about Sally (Meaghan Rath and Josh (Sam Huntington), who both find out the truth about what or who made them a ghost and a werewolf. Meanwhile Aidan (Sam Witwer) staves off another plan by Bishop (Mark Pellegrino) to meddle in his attempt at normalcy. It was easily the best all-around episode of the season so far.
Sally
Danny (Gianpaolo Venuta) quickly went from the grieving widower to the biggest scumbag on the planet. The fact he hasn’t visited her grave but has pictures of Bridget (Angela Galuppo) all over his apartment were clues that he never truly loved Sally. Which is why it’s become quickly apparent what Sally must do and that’s to reach out to Bridget and warn her of the monster she’s dating.
