According to a contemporary article in Film Daily, First National constructed its largest set up to that time, for the exterior, interior and garden of an English country home.
In September 1928, Warner Bros. Pictures purchased a majority interest
in First National Pictures and from that point on, all "First National" productions were actually made under Warner Bros. control, even though the two companies continued to retain separate identities until the mid-1930's, after which time "A Warner Bros.-First National Picture" was often used.
A 1931 publicity shot of Boris Karloff mentions him playing an unidentified role in this 'recently completed' Allan Dwan feature, but he was nowhere to be seen in the final print, and it has never been included in the Karloff filmography.
The story takes place in 1914, but all of the women's clothes and hairstyles are strictly in the 1931 mode.
Some contemporary reviews list William Austin in the role of "Archie," but Tyrell Davis played the role. Similarly, both Jean Fenwick and Mae Madison were both listed as "Ruth." Although the character is seen in long shot, the actress playing the role is uncertain.
