Before “La La Land” and “Whiplash,” there was “Guy and Madeline On A Park Bench,” Damien Chazelle’s debut musical, which he wrote, directed, produced, shot and co-edited while still at Harvard, in 2009. Now, the soundtrack for the Godard-inspired black-and-white musical will be released for the first time ever this March, via Milan Records.
Chazelle’s directorial debut also includes music by fellow Harvard alum Justin Hurwitz, who later composed the songs and scores for Chazelle’s Academy Award winners “Whiplash” and “La La Land”. The director and the composer met while at Harvard, where they played in the same band.

Of all the films that the Nolan brothers have collaborated on over the years, The Prestige is perhaps the most flawlessly and intricately designed. Warning: Spoilers For Westworld Ahead. How old is Robert Ford? It’s a question that has been plaguing me since Anthony Hopkins first appeared on screen, talking to the broken down host Old Bill (Michael Wincott), in the Westworld premiere. The confusion has only deepened with each successive piece of information revealed about Ford’s past. We know Sir Anthony himself is 78, but that means little and less in a future where we’ve cured any and all ailments that currently control the human population. But now that we know the child robot (Oliver Bell) is indeed a young version of Ford, I’m more convinced than ever that the creator of Westworld is older than he appears. There are many incongruities to Robert Ford’s life. The fact his robot family is dressed in ‘ye olden’ clothes despite little chance* of them running into other guests or hosts. Ford...

Funcom has announced that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will be able to venture into The Park — its amusement-filled psychological horror experience — come Quarter 1 of 2016. This appreciated news comes to us on the heel of the game’s late October PC debut, which was perfectly timed to coincide with Halloween.
In The Park, players take control of a distressed mother named Lorraine, who’s lost her son within a horrifically disturbing amusement park. There, they’ll venture through the shadows with a lump in their throats, as they find out what happened to the boy and learn more about Lorraine, herself. In doing so, they’ll have to deal with some sort of devilish squirrel, whose menacing red eyes are prominently featured in the game’s promo material.

I’m back, dear readers. I had a great time on my vacation – I was across the pond in London, in case anyone was wondering – and I’ve returned to bring you more analysis of the latest and greatest movie trailers. As I mentioned, I’d written four Trailer Trashin’ columns to be released over the time I was gone, covering four of the biggest trailers that dropped in the later part of April. But I had some computer troubles with this last one, so I’m presenting it to you now. With that said, let’s take a look at the official global trailer for Jurassic World.

Every musician returning to a familiar masterwork claims fresh insight — details that suddenly reveal themselves, a new understanding buried in the score’s infinite riches. Great art is always changing, we’re told, which is what makes it great. This is often hogwash. Symphonic music’s most loyal audiences rely on the fact that most of it sounds mostly the same most of the time. Somehow, though, the Berlin Philharmonic made Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, that old collection of cumbersome glories, feel like a stunningly contemporary drama. The astonishment began before the first note had sounded. The director Peter Sellars had tailored his staging for the Berliner Philharmonie, so the only way to import the spectacle was to bring the hall along, too. In the Park Avenue Armory, someone had assembled immense quantities of scaffolding into a nearly full-scale mock-up of the orchestra’s famous home. Seating encircled the...

Whoa. Whoa! And in the middle of the season premiere no less. There were many great moments in the House of Cards season 2 opener — some funny, some creepy, many nasty — but all of them pale next to the Cathedral Station shocker. [Spoilers Ahead!]
It took me two viewings of the premiere to grasp the insidiousness of the conversation between Claire and Francis in bed, the episode’s pivotal exchange. ”You haven’t said a word,” Claire said. “No,” said Frank. “Where does that leave us?” she wondered. “I’m fully prepared and I have been for some time,” he answered. “I know...

Pre-Code Hollywood studios spent millions transitioning their medium to sound and other new technologies that brought about major advances in photography, lighting, and set design. But there were still five million unemployed people in the United States and many more just getting by. The studios were losing money, many of them going bankrupt.
By 1930 the breadlines were longer than the ticket lines and people were slow to give up their hard earned money. They wanted to be entertained, they wanted to laugh and forget their troubles for just a while. Comedies, adventure, and musicals quickly became the most popular film genres of the time.

Chicago – Another week of Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming options for you to peruse courtesy of HollywoodChicago.com’s “What to Watch.” Every week, we gather a select few of the most recent Blu-ray & DVD releases, toss in at least one On Demand option we’ve seen, and present them in a checklist order for you to knock out through Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, or good, old-fashioned Blu-ray (yes, that sounds funny to me too). This week’s is the strongest yet by far. Everything in here is worth a look, all the way down to #9. This is just the order you should watch ‘em in more than anything else.

When I finished V/H/S for the first time, I expected to log-on to my corner of the internet, and see my friends and colleagues sharing my excitement for the experience. What I found instead, was that I appeared to be in the minority. Everybody had something negative to say about the movie, save for James Harris(Jimmy Terror). I was surprised by this. We don’t get many quality anthology films these days, and I really feel like that’s what V/H/S brought to the table. Sure, some of the segments were nonsensical,...

A substantial improvement in both concept and execution over its predecessor, V/H/S/2 is one of horror’s best recent anthologies, even if its fealty to – or perhaps inability to avoid — genre cliches undermines its overall impact. Creating a uniquely eclectic series of found-footage vignettes, its seven directors surpass the imagination and intensity of those in the original V/H/S, reiterating the format’s importance as both a showcase for interstitial creativity between feature-length projects and a testing ground for future ones.

The horror anthology has received a fair bit of new blood lately with two high-profile effort V/H/S and The ABCs of Death both arriving on a huge wave of hype in horror circles but ended up raining a shower of disappointing poop over us instead. Both indulged in the worst of what this genre’s filmmakers seem to think fans want, splashes of misogyny, gore purely for gore’s sake and the same old story repeated ad infinitum with the same old scares played the same old ways. The insanely quick turnaround of V/H/S 2 (or as its original brilliant title had it, S-v/H/S) was cause for concern but with filmmakers more exciting than those involved in the first instalment,...

London, May 27: Helen Mirren kept her promise to a drum band to watch them perform at a gay pride festival in order to make up for ranting at them.

Is that right? After five years of Spanish throughout high school, I still just went to Google Translate for that shit. But anyway, for those who don’t understand my (probably gibberish) Spanish, it (most likely doesn’t) means “Long live the horror anthology!” Why am I so excited? Well, partially because I didn’t think this craze would actually stay strong in today’s horror world, and partially because V/H/S/2 proves the concept is only producing better and better content. V/H/S and The ABCs Of Death tested the waters, wetted viewers whistles, but V/H/S/2 took the concept to extremely more brutal places knowing the market for over-the-top horror is salivating over original content these days – something I pray the newly announced sequel to The ABCs Of Death tackles even more ferociously.

Dame Helen Mirren has shown her sense of humour is still intact, stepping out wearing a special T-shirt, following her four-letter outburst in the guise of The Queen.
And some amateur video has emerged of the incident, which took place over the weekend outside the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End. Watch Above.
In the video, Dame Helen can be seen in a blue cardigan as part of her costume, berating the drummer and gesticulating at the nearby theatre where, it can be surmised, she was struggling to be heard over the drums.

Keep calm ... and shut the hell up. Helen Mirren, in full Queen Elizabeth II regalia, wasn't amused on Saturday when she stormed out of the Gielgud Theater in London's West End, where she currently is playing the lead role as Her Majesty in the play The Audience. No, it wasn't simply a cell phone going off in the theater that got the Oscar winner's goat - it was an entire troupe of dancing drummers beating their instruments outside while she was performing on stage, reports the Daily Telegraph. Apparently, according to a video that captured the incident, the drummers got...

When a group of street drummers performed outside London's Gielgud Theatre to promote a gay music festival, the last person they likely expected to have reprimand them for their antics was Dame Helen Mirren. But that's exactly who came outside to curse at them and send them away after they interrupted her play, "The Audience," with their loud music. Better yet, she did so dressed as her character, Queen Elizabeth II.
"I'm afraid there were a few 'thespian' words used. They got a very stern royal ticking off but I have to say they were very sweet and they stopped immediately," Mirren tells The Daily Telegraph. "I felt rotten but on the other hand they were destroying our performance so something had to be done."

Animal lovers and anyone with half a heart aren't the only people who have been traumatized by Sarah McLachlan's devastating ads for the Spca. Despite the singer's desire to help the organization and its fight against animal cruelty, she found the ads themselves quite hard to do.
"Honestly, those Spca ads? Brutal for me, because it was so far out of my comfort zone, asking for money like that. It made me so uncomfortable," McLachlan tells Huffington Post Music Canada. "Even though, boy, those ads worked like a hot damn!"

"Honestly, those Spca ads? Brutal for me, because it was so far out of my comfort zone, asking for money like that. It made me so uncomfortable," McLachlan tells Huffington Post Music Canada. "Even though, boy, those ads worked like a hot damn!"

London, Nov mber 21: A novel written by a 63-year-old London grandmother that tracks the unfolding love affair between a couple in their 60s has become a hit among book lovers.
Hilary Boyd's novel, Thursdays In The Park, explores the realities of forbidden attraction and sexual passion at an age when we tend to assume people long for nothing more than to be tucked up in a Slanket watching the Antiques Roadshow, the Daily Mail reported.
After a creakingly slow start in paperback, its launch as an online ebook at the end of the summer has provided an astonishing transformation in its fortunes.
By the start of this month, sales.

As a New Yorker familiar with the hard-nosed West 4th street pick-up b-ball games that attract many onlookers (natives and tourists), I'm definitely interested in seeing this upcoming new documentary feature titled Doin' It In The Park. Co-directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau (their debut) what's Doin' It In The Park about? The film: ... explores the definition, history, culture and social impact of New York's summer b-ball scene, widely recognized as the worldwide "Mecca" of the sport. In New York City, pick-up basketball is not just a sport. It is a way of life. There are 700+ outdoor courts, and an estimated 500,000 players,...

Sad news for those Nolan fans who are also occupying Zuccotti Park right now- The Dark Knight Rises production team has insisted that they have no plans to shoot the ongoing protests in New York City, despite initial reports of the contrary. Personally, I thought that the Ows coverage would make great B-roll for The Dark Knight Rises (after all, both the fictional and real Gotham are in political unrest) but I'm not surprised that Warner Brothers is insistent that they have no plans to shoot in the park.
Pay attention to the preposition there. They're not shooting In the park. They may be shooting around the park. Or by the park. Through the park? No. Didn't anyone teach you about prepositions?
Anyway, New York is busy preparing for the next few weeks of filming. If you are in New York and see a sign for "Magnus Rex" snap a...

Cher Lloyd has just released her debut single and it looks very much like she is heading for the number one spot in the UK charts this week.
‘Swagger Jagger’ hit the shelves on Sunday 1st of August and in the first two days, the 18 year old X Factor star shifted 30,000 copies of the upbeat track.
Fellow X Factor singers Jls hit the top spot last week, with their single ‘She Makes Me Wanna’, however it is expected that they will now fall to second place as sales of Lloyd’s track are comfortably ahead of their figures.
Cher has hit the promotional trail quite heavily upon the release of Swagger Jagger. Yesterday she was greeted by thousands of screaming fans as she signed copies of the cd Westfield shopping centre in London and on Sunday, along with a number of newspaper and radio interview, the pint sized performer also...

You have to say one thing for Cher Lloyd, the pint sized singer has balls.
Most people would be devastated if they turned up at a concert, only to be greeted by boos and hecklers as they performed, but the X Factor star just carried on singing when she took to the stage on Party In The Park last Sunday.
There were some Cher supporters in the crowd, as you can hear in the clip below but concert goers report that just before she sang, as Lloyd’s name was announced, the boos coming from the crowd was deafening. That would have made walking onto the platform quite scary we think!
To make matters worse, some people even threw things onto the stage as the Malvern lass performed.
Listen to Cher performing her debut single Swagger Jagger below. Let us know what you thought in the following comments section.

It’s a big gig for a twelve year old but Ronan Parke showed exactly why Simon Cowell has offered him a record deal, when he performed at T4 In The Park last weekend.
The handsome young Britain’s Got Talent star wowed the crowd with a pitch perfect rendition of Cee Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’ at the event and was introduced by an overly enthusiastic David Hasselhoff, who of course admitted that he was furious when Jai McDowall beat Ronan to the winners spot in the recent series of the ITV talent show.
Parke looked quite funky at the concert, sporting a tie-dyed red and black t shirt with some black skinny jeans. He was joined on the stage by some rather older backing dancers but he looked unaffected by the production or the crowd and delivered a confident performance.

Jessie J has been forced to cancel several gigs at various summer festivals due to her emergency surgery on her left foot today. The 'Price Tag' singer had the operation on her foot after falling off-stage during rehearsals for the Capital FM Summertime Ball earlier this month. Earlier today, she revealed that she was "super scared" about the surgery. Doctors have advised her not to perform for a number of weeks so that she can fully recover. This means that she has had to pull out of T In The Park, Oxegen and Lovebox festivals. She will also miss gigs at Orange Rock Corps, T4 On The Beach, iTunes Festival, Radio Aire Party In The Park, Key 103 Summertime Live, Summer Sonic Japan and Digester Event Stockholm. However, it is hoped that she will have recovered in time for the Big Chill and V Festival. Jessie J (more)...

While the Arctic Monkeys are set to release their forth full-length album in June, frontman Alex Turner also has a little project of his own. He provided a 6-track Ep for Richard Ayoade‘s Submarine. As you may know, the coming-of-age comedy is one of my favorites of 2011, having seen it at both Tiff and Sundance. Domino Records has released a music video of sorts for the film, featuring the track Piledriver Waltz. Check it out below for the film that stars Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige, Sally Hawkins, Paddy Considine, and Noah Taylor.
Synopsis (as told by our main character):

Thanks for welcoming Marissa Jaret Winokur! The actress, who co-hosts the new CBS daytime chat show, The Talk, is mom to 2-year-old Zev Isaac with her husband Judah Miller. Winokur, 37, was diagnosed with cervical cancer nine years ago, had a hysterectomy and later welcomed her son with the help of a surrogate. Though her road to motherhood had a few twists and turns, she faces the same joys — and challenges — as any working mom. In her latest blog, Winokur discusses the elation and frustration of traveling with kids.
