Ponch and Jon track down a tow truck driver who robs stranded single women motorists. Ponch's exposure to a leaky tank of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) threatens his performance on the streets as well as in the CHP's big basketball game.

They also operate a car theft ring and prey on unsuspecting car sellers by taking the cars for a test drive and not returning. When they get in an auto accident, their strange behavior gives them away and they are arrested.

Ponch and Jon investigate a wealthy man who is ripping off his family's charity car auction.

Counterfeiters working out of a church are creating phony $20 bills and passing them around L.A. Even Ponch receives some of the fake bills.

A robot is visiting the CHP to show that it could be helpful to their work and so far it does, but for some reason every time it goes near something electrical, it shorts out. Ponch is dealing with a couple of girls who go around on bikes and pursue anyone who is speeding. He suspects that one of them has a personal reason for what she is doing.
