- David "Chico" Ryan was born in Arlington, Massachusetts and went to Arlington High School. He joined Sha Na Na as a bass player and vocalist.
Sha Na Na gained international fame when they performed at Woodstock '69. Another alum of Arlington High School played at Woodstock '69, Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson, guitarist and co-founder of "Canned Heat." Although, Ryan didn't join the band until 1973.
Ryan also was in the movie "Grease" playing the role (with Sha Na Na) of Johnny Casino and the Gamblers. Before joining Sha Na Na, he was in a band from New Jersey called the Happenings who scored hits with "See you in September" in '66 and "I got rhythm" in '67.
He died in Beverly, Massachusetts at the age of 50. - Music Department
