Matthew Waterhouse was born the son of a company solicitor. He joined the BBC as a clerk, working in the news and information department, while also pursuing an acting career. His first TV role was as a public schoolboy in "To Serve Them All My Days" (1980). He had not even started working on that programme when he auditoned for and won the role of Adric in Doctor Who. Since his departure in the series he has worked mainly in the theatre, appearing as Puck in "A Midsummer's Night Dream", as Peter Pan in "Peter Pan", and as Edmund in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." April is an actor, writer, and BIFA-nominated producer.
She founded Mini Productions in 2012 which she co-owns with partner-in-crime Sara Huxley. They were both nominated for the Raindance Discovery Award at the 2020 BIFA's, with their debut feature Rose (2020). Written by Matt Stokoe who stars alongside Sophie Rundle the film premiered at BFI's London Film Festival.
Their second feature Embers (2023) is set to be released in 2023.
April's writing debut Treacle (2019) (in which she also stars) premiered at BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival. That same year she was one of 6 queer filmmakers to be selected for the BFI Network & BAFTA @ Flare Mentorship and was mentored by BFI Vision Awardee Cecilia Frugiuele.
Since then she's gone on to write and star in Just in Case (2021) and Do This for Me (2022). Both films are in collaboration with the Film and TV Charity and Raising Films.
