For minor leaguers it's all about "making it to the show", the big leagues.
Kevin Costner stars as catcher Crash Davis, perpetual minor leaguer. He is brought on with the Durham Bulls to help develop a new pitcher, Tim Robbins as 'Nuke' Lalo. Crash is a bit short on talent but has the maturity, Nuke is talented but a bit short on maturity. Hopefully the synergism will work. Both their jobs are complicated by Susan Sarandon as Annie Savoy, super fan of each new crop of players.
This is a good, entertaining movie, though a bit ribald. Costner is in fine form, just before 'Field of Dreams' and 'Dances With Wolves.' Robbins is also in fine form, a few years before his biggest role in 'Shawshank.' The two play well off each other. Sarandon is good in everything she does.
At home on DVD from my public library.
