O Segredo de Davi

Excellent actors, very good promise, good execution, the director is amazing, everything fits perfectly during the movie, this movie is proof that Brazilian cinema is good, I don't know why this movie is so unknown, this movie is just not a 10/10 because sometimes the things happen too slowly, but still a magnificent movie .

This is Brazilian serial killer thriller that doesnt at all use the amazing beauty or overwhelming settings that country has on any given day. Fair enough its not a travel guide, but this wasn't as flavourful as much of the cinema from Rio and everything around it, usually has.

We meet David at school. I'm guessing its high school because bullying is done with impunity and a teacher only steps in when David, the victim fights back. The bully says "You're dead" in front of the teacher and I thought those words may come back to turn it into a hint. But this film dissapoints with its every quiet sleepy dialogue and brief encounters with women and men.

David is a sexual voyeur. A video camera enthusiast instead of cellphones. Though if he is trying create mementos of his "activities" a good Apple cellphone would be more convenient. There is violence First a bird ( because THEY HAVE TO SHOW AN ANIMAL BE KILLED IN EVERY DARN HORROR FILM. Coldly or cruelly. At least it was kinda making a point with 2 characters bonding over the idea of death as freedom but its such a predictable moldy hackneyed mo ie trope its stupid at this point. Of course a killed fake animal is part of serial killers evolution. But we don't need to see dogs or cats etc BEING MURDERED. OK sorry....😑 So then we see David goes on dark websites His minder mother or aunt takes care of the cooking & cleaning. You wonder how mucb she knows about David's extra-curricular behaviour and by the time the movies ending I realized I didnt care. Save your time on this planet for a better film.

With smaller indie films, particularly international films, you can get anything from a dumpster fire to a masterpiece to anything in between. To me this movie is a masterpiece. From the direction, to the soundtrack, to the cinematography, to the production design, to the acting. To me Nicolas Prattes performance as Davi is stunning, it is an exemplary career defining performance. He truly becomes this character, you are equal parts mesmerized and revolted. The other male lead is also very, very good as is the rest of the cast. The dialogue is also very realistic, natural and believable. This movie totally did not turn out the way I expected which is rare in modern hollywood movies but clearly alive and well in the indie scene. I can't say enough about this movie. A top notch debut for the director. I don't do social media but I almost opened a twitter account to to let Prattes know how amazing he was in this. So if you happen to read this hats off my friend. I could easily see you following Gael Bernal and Diego Luna and becoming a world renowned movie star!

David´s Secrets is a psychological thriller blended with a hallucinogenic fantasy and shows the inner demons of a young brasilian film student, caused by misrepresented cohexistence in his family ties. His calm routine is transformed in agressive behaviour and killing insticts of a typical serial killer. The film dialogues much more with north american productions than brasilian productions. The elements of fantasy reveals the hidden traumas lived by him and the acts of filmed violence are the catharsis.

The film fails in some aspects but it shows well the psychopathic side of the main character in the film we see his controlling side that is well developed during the film the actor chosen for the role and perfect for the role the deaths are well done more and very similar to others movies of the genre not that this is bad for the work the grade is at 6.0.
