From Rocky Balboa fights to cornfield baseball games, virtually every mainstream sport has received a few moments in the Hollywood spotlight. But it’s hard to think of a sport more intrinsically intertwined with cinema than bodybuilding. Football fans might enjoy watching “Remember the Titans” on an offseason afternoon, but cinematic recreations are unlikely to scratch the same itch as live games on an NFL Sunday. Bodybuilding, on the other hand, has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with Hollywood ever since a certain Austrian named Arnold Schwarzenegger set foot in California. For the past half century, documentaries about the sport have often drawn more mainstream attention than any live broadcast of an actual competition.
In many fans’ eyes, the sport of bodybuilding first gained mainstream legitimacy with the release of “Pumping Iron,” George Butler and Robert Fiore’s landmark 1977 documentary about Schwarzenegger’s preparations for the Mr. Olympia competition. In addition...

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.
Find a full list of every film and TV show arriving on Netflix this month here.

"Is it worth it to sacrifice one's mind and body for sport?" The first teaser trailer has debuted online for a documentary called The Hurt Business, from director Vlad Yudin (of Generation Iron), taking a look at Mma and the superstars of mixed martial arts. It's narrated by Kevin Costner and profiles the lives of a couple of major competitors, including Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones. The descriptions says it discusses the theme of injuries "both mental and physical" within Mma, and it also looks at just how dedicated these athletes are to this popular sport. Other great Mma docs include The Smashing Machine, Rickson Gracie: Choke, and Like Water about fighter Anderson Silva. Even if you're not a fan of Mma, this is worth a look. Here's the first trailer for Vlad Yudin's documentary The Hurt Business, direct from YouTube: From the producers of Bowling for Columbine,...

Mixed martial arts has exploded in popularity over the last decade, turning athletes who in an earlier time would be, at best, obscure and scary, into bona fide celebrities and in some cases, outright movie stars. But the journey to that fame and newfound cultural acceptance comes with a high price for the fighters who punish their bodies regularly. The documentary The Hurt Business, written and directed by Vlad Yudin (Generation Iron) and executive produced by Yudin and…...

Her I called it my favorite film of 2014 so obviously I think Her is something special. Here's a quote from my theatrical review: Spike Jonze's Her is absolutely wonderful. It's a film that questions our very existence, who we are as people, what defines us and the complexity or lack thereof of human relationships and bonding. What's truly amazing, is how simple Jonze makes it look, there are thematic layers to Her that could fill hours of discussion. One enlightened moment leads to another as the core pleasures we find in the company of others is stripped down to the very essence of humanity and what truly allows us to appreciate love and connect with someone else while also making a comment on our society on a whole.

Generation Iron, a semi-sequel to the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary Pumping Iron (the film is exec produced by Jerome Gary, producer on the Schwarzenegger doc), is a documentary film which follows a group of body builders all of whom are competing for the much coveted Olympia title. If they win this, they are officially the greatest body builder in the world. Generation Iron looks at the different techniques used by these competitors to achieve the body of their dreams, and how far they are willing to go to become Mr. Olympia.
This film is a very interesting look at the professional sport of body building, covering a large aspect of the competitor’s lives.

The comedy-action-drama based on the true story of the efforts to save and recover precious art works stolen by the Nazis in WW2 fetched $2.3 million, and $2.5 million with previews.

The Christmas Candle, which was produced by the Christian-themed studio that Santorum heads, fails to fly
• News: Rick Santorum calls Hollywood 'the devil's playground'
The power of prayer has failed to save The Christmas Candle, the new release from Rick Santorum's faith based film studio, EchoLight.
The Christmas Candle, set in the fictional English village of Gladbury and billed as "a timeless holiday film for the entire family", attracted widespread critical scorn as well as dismal box-office results, having grossed just over $1.6m (£988,000) after two weeks on release.
The bad reviews were perhaps predictable, with the New York Daily News saying: "This odd Dickens-meets-Sunday-school movie is as artless as the setup is muddled", while the New York Post judged: "This throwback, made-for-tv-style film takes the easy way out in a cheesy climax, but its resolute quaintness may appeal to the kind of viewers who regard electricity as disturbingly newfangled.

Some might consider some of the films I appreciate to be strange, but with ‘Generation Iron,’ I found a documentary film that was completely foreign to my way of seeing the world. Frankly, I wanted to be objective about the film, giving its subject matter the appreciation and interest that it deserves.
Over the years, I have occasionally seen a cover of a body building magazine and been disgusted: The men and woman on the covers look like bloated pieces of bacon, a Bosch like nightmare, a surreal nightmare of human anatomy.
However, this turned out to be an all-around, superb documentary. Still, it is a bit strange to watch: There is something pornographic, something superficial about the imagery, but as I watched it, the movie slowly gained my respect. Why? Well, learning the life stories and goals of the body builders perceptibly opened a door...

Well, learning the life stories and goals of the body builders perceptibly opened a door...

This weekend, a father takes justice into his own hands in "Prisoners," dancers battle it out for world supremacy in "Battle of the Year," and "The Wizard of Oz" gets three dimensional.
In Denis Villeneuve's highly praised thriller "Prisoners," two young girls go missing, propelling one father, played by Hugh Jackman, to spring into action, doing what the police won't. While Jake Gyllenhaal's Detective Loki pursues an array of leads, Jackman's Keller Dover pushes the boundaries of the law to find the kidnapper. After Villeneuve's shocking 2012 thriller "Incendies," expect the tension to get insanely high in "Prisoners" -- and watch out for a crazy twist.
Josh Holloway, from ABC's "Lost," plays former basketball coach Jason Blake, who helps prep a team of b-boys for the upcoming breakdancing world championship in "Battle of the Year." Among the dancers intent on winning back the trophy are hip-hop artist Chris Brown and Josh Peck,...

Early in the documentary Generation Iron, bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger observes that "Bodybuilding falls into this unique category of being a sport, entertainment, being a way of life, and art." It's an uneasy quartet of ideas forced to harmonize within bodies intentionally made freakish and/or beautiful. Director Vlad Yudin spends a year tracking the brutal physical, mental, and spiritual training of seven top competitors (including such all-stars as Phil Heath, Kai Greene, Branch Warren, and Dennis Wolf) for the Mr. Olympia title, and ends up with a gorgeous meditation on age-old existential concerns. As the men work through their regimens and go about daily struggles to balance personal lives and career goals (struggles which take place on farms, in McMansions, and...

Mickey Rourke will be the voice of a body building documentary titled Generation Iron, for the Vladar Co. The doc is scheduled for release in September.
The film follows the world’s top seven bodybuilders as they compete to bring home the coveted “Mr. Olympia” title. Vlad Yudin is directing and co-producing the film with partner Edwin Mejia for Vladar Co., and in partnership with American Media Inc.
Jerome Gary, who produced the 1977 docudrama Pumping Iron, with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, is exec producing alongside Ami’s David J. Pecker.
According to THR, this film “explores the widely misunderstood world of bodybuilding.”
