Captain Peck calls Detective Lopez "Serpico". Francesco Vincent Serpico (born April 14, 1936) is an American retired New York Police Department detective, best known for whistle-blowing on police corruption.
There have been several films and series about Serpico, including a feature film from 1973 which was directed by Sidney Lumet and starred Al Pacino in the title role.
